Serie A Best Bets: Sunday, October, 2nd

Max Allegri is in trouble over in Turin, as are Sampdoria and Spezia, who continue to limp through Italy’s top flight. All three feature in this weekend’s instalment of Serie A best bets as another enthralling schedule in Serie A begins to take shape.

In this article:

Juventus vs Bologna Preview

Italy, Serie A, Sunday, October 2nd, 19:45 (UK)

Put simply, Allegri’s head is readied for the chopping block. A loss at home to Bologna could force the hand of the hierarchy at Juventus. The sizable contract he’s sitting on has bought him some time, that’s for sure. But following the defeat at the hands of Monza, there can’t be too much credit in the bank, despite the financial stress an Allegri sacking would cause the club.

Considering the form that Juve find themselves in and the likeliness of Allegri demanding that his players control possession and put their mark on the game early, first-half corners should be the result of early pressure. Bologna lead Serie A in conceding the most first-half corners this term, with 4.14 conceded on average before the halftime whistle. Juventus’ 2.00 first-half average for corners forced offers a level of comfort for the proposed selection, though admittedly not the most significant figure to work with.

Juventus vs Bologna Best Bet

Juve hit seven and eight corners in their most recent two fixtures at home versus Spezia and Salernitana, respectively. The 2/5 first and second half splits against Spezia are complemented by the 4/4 when Salernitana came to town.

It should be noted that The Old Lady failed to register two or more corners in each half in their previous two home games against Sassuolo and Roma.

  • Selection: O1.5 Juve Corners Each Half and O4.5 Juve Corners (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.86 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Lazio vs Spezia Preview

Italy, Serie A, Sunday, October 2nd, 11:30 (UK)

Lazio welcomes a Spezia side early on Sunday that has mustered very little in the attacking third this campaign. The Aquilotti’s 4.7xG total ranks 20th in Italy’s top flight. That figure is born from their stuttering 8.14 shots per90, the lowest sum throughout Serie A, as is the 1.71 shots on target per90.

The capital club have conceded the second-fewest goals in Serie A, despite the growing 8.9xGA threatening to dwarf their conceded tally. Although there’s a suggestion that Lazio have been somewhat lucky only to ship five at the wrong end, we’re likely to see Spezia struggle at the Stadio Olimpico.

With Ciro Immobile’s fitness now a significant doubt, Lazio could lack his lethality in the forward areas. Couple the Italian’s probable absence with Spezia’s toothless nature in the final third, and we may be onto a winner with under five goals.

Lazio vs Spezia Best Bet

In truth, the knee-jerk reaction when initially looking at this game was to pencil over 1.5 goals in the bet slip. Yet, with a Lazio win and two or more goals priced at 1.66, the value is with the unders goal markets. And the stats back it up.

Each of Spezia’s seven matches this season has landed the unders fancy, with Lazio also yielding the same 100% strike rate for the proposed under-five goals selection.

  • Selection: Lazio Win and Under 5 Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.80 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Sampdoria vs Monza Preview

Italy, Serie A, Sunday, October 2nd, 14:00 (UK)

It’s a bit of a speculative position, as you may have gathered from the price. However, Abdelhamid Sabiri has already shown a willingness to test the keeper for Sampdoria in the opening seven matches.

Unfortunately for I Blucerchiati, that want to pull the trigger hasn’t aided a single victory in a worrying initial foray into the season for the club. Instead, their winless start is populated with five losses and two draws as newly-promoted Monza travel to Genoa.

Both sides will have this meeting in the diary as one to take points from. Monza will be full of life after their first win in the top flight and their most prominent victory in the modern era. The Old Lady fell to defeat in the Stadio Brianteo, as just shy of 13,000 witnessed a giant killing versus a wounded Juve in disastrous shape.

With both presumably seeking three points, it may lend a hand to a more open fixture with attempts at goal becoming more of a regular occurrence than both have displayed recently. After not recording a shot for three entire games, Sabiri registered six against Spezia, four of which were on target. With Monza at a similar level to Spezia and Sabiri back in front of home support, we should see more of the same from the Moroccan.

Sampdoria vs Monza Best Bet

Sampdoria are reliant on Sabiri and their ageing forward line finding form. If that doesn’t happen, it’s a one-way ticket to Serie B. After blanking in successive games, Sabiri’s shots per90 average has dropped to a respectable 2.87 per90.

Nevertheless, with the winger commanding free-kick duties and possessing a keenness to shoot whenever in range, the over 2.5 selection is something to consider, albeit at a smaller stake.

  • Selection: Sabiri Over 2.5 Shots
  • Best Odds: 3.00 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 5/10

Odds via bet365 as at 21:00, September 29th 2022. Odds may now differ.
