Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team recently travelled to Dubai for some warm-weather training. The Gunners aim to use this time as an opportunity to reset after a string of disappointing recent results. Arsenal has been struggling with defensive issues, conceding goals while simultaneously facing difficulties in scoring. Silvestre believes that Arsenal’s problems are more indicative of their inability to control games.
“I think they’ve been exposed because they haven’t taken as much control of the games and haven’t scored goals.”
“When you’re not in control of games like they have been in the past, you’re going to be conceding chances.”
“It’s not really the defence. It’s the entire team. They have to show humility.”
“There has been criticism about the finishing of the game but also as a team they need to defend as a unit and be stronger together.”
One of the major talking points among Arsenal and football fans on social media has been the success of Arsenal’s summer signing, Declan Rice. While it’s undeniable that Rice has added steel and physicality to the midfield, there are questions about his ability to make penetrative passes and progress play. Some suggest that Arsenal miss the passing ability of Thomas Partey when Declan Rice is on the field. However, these claims are quickly dismissed by Silvestre.
“I don’t think Arsenal are missing Partey.”
“Watching the games I think Rice and Partey are pretty even in terms of passing and creativity.”
“I don’t see there being a major difference between the two players.”
Arsenal has been linked with Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, who has been in fine form for his club. Since his arrival from Ligue 1, Onana has played 57 games for Everton, including 22 this season, and has been a key cog in Sean Dyche’s revolution at Everton. However, it remains to be seen if he is prepared to make the step up to a team with Arsenal’s structure.
“He’s improved a lot. I’m not sure he’s at the level to improve the current squad.”
“If you’re chasing the Premier League title with City and with Liverpool, I don’t think he’s fully ready to improve the midfield. He still has some work to do.”
“Number one would be concentration. Sometimes he loses the ball too easily and his decision making is not 100% there yet. It’s a bit too early for him to be a contender in midfield for Arsenal.”
Following their warm-weather training in Dubai, Arsenal will return to Premier League action this weekend as they face Crystal Palace at The Emirates. Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko is a major doubt for the weekend’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace. Additionally, Arsenal hopes to have Gabriel Jesus back for the clash.
“Palace are a difficult team to manoeuvre. They’ve got a good bunch of players with experience so they’re tough to beat and going forward they’ve got Eze and a lot of options. Edouard, Olise etc.”
“They are difficult to beat. I think Arsenal will benefit from the rest and will use it as an opportunity to reset.”
‘The mindset will be fresh and they’ll be eager to respond.”
“Arsenal are now under pressure because the other teams like City and Liverpool are gaining momentum and are not conceding many points on the road.”
“Now it’s time to kick on and make sure they get the victory.”
