Here at bettingexpert, Devang Prasad sat down with former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre. Silvestre previewed the upcoming Bayern Munich vs Arsenal Champions League clash coming up this Wednesday. This comes after the disastrous 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at The Emirates this weekend. Silvestre also addressed transfer rumours linking the Gunners with moves for Joshua Kimmich and Alexander Isak.

Silvestre warns Arsenal of Bayern being a wounded animal

It’s all to play for as Arsenal head to Germany this week following their 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich at The Emirates last week. Following Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich giving up their league title to Bayer Leverkusen, both teams will be wounded heading into the clash at The Allianz Arena. Silvestre warns Arsenal to not underestimate Thomas Tuchel’s men on Wednesday night.

“Bayern will put their best foot forward for the champions league. Especially knowing the history of the club. They have a responsibility to do well and progress.”

“They will be in top form but their results are worrying from their perspective.”

Kimmich could be a target for Arsenal

Speaking of Bayern Munich, German midfielder Joshua Kimmich has been linked to Arsenal. According to reports Kimmich is still refusing to sign up to new terms with Bayern Munich. Bayern are wary that they run the risk of him leaving for free in 15 months’ time when his contract at the club expires. Silvestre says if Arsenal are eager to bring in Kimmich they would have to be able to ensure he’s a starter. Silvestre’s concerns are understandable. Ben White is Arsenal’s first choice right back and has developed a good relationship with Bukayo Saka. So, would Kimmich be going to Arsenal as a midfielder partner for Declan Rice?

“He’s been an established top player for Bayern since he was young and he’s a top professional.”

“He would play at Arsenal but if you bring him in you need to make sure he plays.”

Rice and Jorginho the difference makers

Despite conceding four goals in the last two games, Arsenal’s defence has been getting deserved plaudits. What  has Arteta done this season that has enabled the defensive performances to have become a stronger unit this season?

“Look at the profile of the goalkeeper, a strong back four.”

“The main profile of White, Gabriel, Saliba, Kiwior is that they are good defensively and they like to defend more than attacking.”

“Rice in midfield means they defend better as a team. Jorginho does a good job screening also.”

“They got rid of the individual errors they made last season.”

“They had a tough period in December so I think there was an emphasis on training to defend better and we can see the effects now.”

Isak would be well suited to Arsenal

Alexander Isak is another man who’s linked to Arsenal, especially considering how often he’s compared to Thierry Henry. Does he have the qualities to be the next ‘Thierry Henry’ at Arsenal? Isak’s rich reign of form continued against Tottenham at the weekend where the striker helped Newcastle on their way to a 4-0 win over their European contenders. Isak now has 17 goals in 24 Premier League appearances this season and looks to be finishing this season on a high.

“Leave Thierry alone. There’s only one Theirry Henry.”

“I’ve followed Isak from his days in Sweden and Spain. He’s progressed well and it’s good to see him back in form after injuries.”

“Isak started as a nine whereas Thierry was more of a winger so it’s a different profile but he’s doing well. It’s a shame Newcastle aren’t as dominant.”

“He would be suited to playing for Arsenal. Very intelligent, link up play and he’s more of a striker than Kai Havertz. That would be a good fit.”
