Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid

Season’s end nears, and La Liga is almost sewn up. Real Madrid are champions for the 35th time, evading the efforts of the often-lacking pack, which includes fierce crosstown rivals, Atléti. Yet, that doesn’t mean the Madrid derby will play out like a damp squib amidst a dull fanfare.

It does, however, hand the impetus to Diego Simeone’s men, who approach Sunday night with more of a purpose than their counterparts who share the capital.

Atléti can still be caught and stripped of a Champions League spot. Real Betis lay in wait three points adrift, waiting patiently for a slip-up. And how Real Madrid would enjoy handing the Seville outfit a gift-wrapped opportunity on a silver platter.

Nevertheless, the Galacticos arrive with an extra-time hangover. The type of high-profile European match that zaps the legs and encourages mental fatigue. Of course, it was worth it; Real booked their 17th Champions League final as a result.

On the other hand, Atléti plays host on the weekend after eight days of rest. They do so with just one win in six matches. There’s undoubtedly a lack of rhythm in camp, but if there’s one shining light this season, it’s their Wanda Metropolitano form.

In La Liga, only Real Madrid (12) have won more on home soil than Atléti’s 11, scoring 1.82 goals per90 in the process. However, despite what seems like the stars are aligning for Atlético Madrid, Diego Simeone hasn’t masterminded a La Liga win over Real Madrid since 2016.

The bragging rights are with The Galacticos, as they often are. It’s hard to side with Los Colchoneros given recent history and the stuttering performances on show.

What I can side within the hope head-to-head streaks continue is under 2.5 goals. The unders selection has landed in six consecutive meetings between the pair and in nine of the previous ten league matches. It’s often a cagey affair, but with Real Madrid’s lacking need to put points on the board, we may be onto a winner.

PSG vs Troyes Best Bet

Troyes’ 3-0 victory over a travelling LOSC Lille ensured three crucial points. Now five points away from the 18th-placed relegation playoff, there is hope.

Troyes have succumbed to the drop in their last four top-flight campaigns. Considering they were level on points with the bottom three in February, Bruno Irles’ side has worked wonders in fashioning a path away from automatic relegation.

Unfortunately for Troyes, Sunday’s fixture lines them up in front of a rampant Kylian Mbappé. Twelve goals in his last nine league appearances and 24 in Ligue 1 this year have him as the most prolific in the division. PSG’s star boy will likely fall short of the 33 strikes recorded in 2018/19, but Ligue 1 top scorer is well within reach.

Stade Rennais’ Martin Terrier and Monaco’s Ben Yedder tail Mbappé with 21 apiece. However, in the form the PSG man is in, he’ll take some stopping. With the anytime scorer markets offering a measly price of 1.53 (Skybet) for the 23-year-old to score anytime, the 3.60 provided for him to bag first is tempting.

It looks like another season just outside of European contention for Hellas Verona. Although still able to catch Fiorentina and those above, the likelihood of said teams picking up points is high.

Verona’s 33 goals from 17 fixtures is one shy of a 2.00 goals per90 average at home. That’s hugely impressive and highlights precisely how they operate. With AC Milan focused on clinching the Scudetto, I’m expecting goals on their part. Moreover, it’d be no surprise for Verona to pipe up at the other end.

This season under five cards has landed in 13 of 17 of Daniele Doveri’s Serie A outings. The Italian official, who boasts a 3.94 cards per90 average, has made a name for himself by being extra stingy with his bookings.
