Super Six Premier League Tips and Predictions Intro

Jeff Stelling may be out the door as the face of Super Six, but Sky’s popular Premier League prediction game rumbles on into another season.

We like to think we’re a helpful bunch here at bettingexpert. So, to live up to that, we thought why not produce a Super Six write-up, powered by OPTA, spanning the 2023/24 campaign? Without further ado, let’s get to it.

In this article:

Brighton vs Luton: Seagulls strong enough to swoop and take all three

England, Premier League, Saturday, August 12th, 15:00 (UK)

For us, you simply have to side with Europa League-clinching Brighton. With or without the departing £110m-rated Moises Caicedo, there’s enough through their revolving door of talent to suggest Luton is to be swerved in any Super Six picks this week.

Brighton have only failed to score in one of their last 28 Premier League matches, netting in each of their previous 16 games in a row since a 1-0 home defeat to Fulham in February. It’s the Seagulls’ longest scoring run in league football since a run of 22 between March and September 2011 [OPTA].

That’s not to say Luton won’t surprise a few or have enough to make life difficult for a host of teams. Brighton at The Amex is not their fight, though, not this season anyway.

Everton vs Fulham: Challenging to pick a winner in Goodison opener

England, Premier League, Saturday, August 12th, 15:00 (UK)

Fulham have had an interesting summer. Approaches for Aleksandr Mitrovic and head coach Marco Silva seems to have gone off the boil, though you’d assume there will be a hesitancy in the air until the transfer window slams shut.

Goodison Park, where the fans sit atop the playing surface, or so it feels, presents a tough away day to open the season. Considering Fulham have conceded at least once in 13 of their last 14 matches, maybe we’ll see their net rustle once again.

It could be safe to assume that Everton do their best work at home this term, as is the norm. Equally, though, Fulham poses a test to be wary of when in full flow.

Fulham have won three of their last five Premier League games against Everton (D1 L1), as many as they had in their previous 18 against them (D2 L13). They’re looking to win consecutive league meetings with the Toffees for the first time since August 2005. [OPTA]

Bournemouth vs West Ham: Iraola’s surge up the table

England, Premier League, Saturday, August 12th, 15:00 (UK)

Cherries fans should be cautiously excited (is that a thing?) heading into the season. Such is the competitive nature of the league, nothing is nailed on. Yet, under Iraola, their new manager, Bournemouth have picked up one of Europe’s most impressive coaches. Gary O’Neil may have kept them up, but this is an upgrade whatever way you look at it.

The 0-4 West Ham win at The Vitality will be in the mind’s of anyone of a Bournemourh persuasion. The new approach, If Rayo Vallaecano’s game plan is anything to go by under Iraola, will see the hosts hound and press sides high up the pitch all season.

However, West Ham will rarely play it out from the back and their direct manner may counteract what Iraola has in store. With that in mind, a score draw seems reasonable, but don’t be surprised to see Bournemouth nick it.

West Ham have lost 22 of their 38 Premier League away games over the last two seasons, the most of any side not to be relegated in either of those campaigns. [OPTA]

Let’s side with the hosts and ride that cautious wave of excitement.

Newcastle vs Aston Villa: Decent team + decent team = score draw

England, Premier League, Saturday, August 12th, 17:30 (UK)

Newcastle vs Aston Villa. Howe vs Emery. Champions League vs Europa Conference League.

Mouthwatering, right? It should be a top drawer showing for the league’s most upwardly mobile teams heading into the new season. The thing is here, you could make a case for a home draw just as easily as you could with a plucky away victory – and even more so a Draw.

But we’re brave enough to stick our necks on the line here at bettingexpert. But not for this one. The Magpies are unbeaten in their last 14 Premier League home games against Aston Villa (W8 D6) since a 3-0 loss in April 2005. [OPTA]

A one-sided head-to-head record is a good foundation to start. However, so far in 2023, only Manchester City have picked up more Premier League wins (17) and more Premier
League points (53) than Aston Villa (13 wins, 43 points). [OPTA]

Thanks OPTA, that doesn’t really help. We’ll sit on the fence here.

Brentford vs Tottenham: Bees to sting but not offer a KO blow

England, Premier League, Saturday, August 12th, 14:00 (UK)

Harry Kane is on the plane. Or is he? Who knows. He’ll probably not make the starting eleven on the first day of the season if this is all still rumbling on.

So let’s assume it’s a Kane-less Spurs side. In that case, the Spurs may struggle. Brentford only lost two fixtures at home last season. And without Ivan Toney near the end of the campaign, The Bees won three out of three, including another Manchester City scalp (and vs Tottenham), to complete the double over Pep’s men.

Ange Postecoglou is the main difference between now and when the sides met at the end of last May. The former Celtic man will imprint his vision on the club, and we think it’ll be for the better, pushing Spurs ahead as a club rather than in the other direction as a litany of ex-Spurs bosses have achieved in the not-so-recent past.

Additionally, Brentford enjoys a London Derby. The Bees are unbeaten in their last nine league London derby matches (W5 D4), winning each of the previous four in a row. They last won five consecutive such matches in March 2009 while in League Two. [OPTA]

That being said, with Ange now at the helm, we feel they may enjoy a decent enough start at a tricky venue.

Chelsea vs Liverpool: Honours even at the Bridge

England, Premier League, Saturday, August 12th, 16:30 (UK)

It’s probably the fixture of match day one if stature and quality of players on show have any bearing into what fixture should grace your television screens. From a Super Six prediction standpoint, though, it’s a tricky one.

Each of the last four competitive meetings have ended 0-0 between Chelsea and Liverpool. One more 0-0 and it’ll become the only head-to-head fixture in English football history to record five successive 0-0 scorelines. [OPTA]

That may stop here. Klopp’s Liverpool will be hard to contain all season with the additions of both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szobaszlai supplementing that fiery forward line in attack. Consider Trent Alexander-Arnold’s likelihood of featuring further up the field and picking out Key Passes and there’s a recipe there for finding the net.

Equally, Poch arrives in London under a cloud of expectation. Making a good start here is top of his list, and that Liverpool backline is susceptible away from home. Thirty goals in 19 away fixtures last term says it all.

Regardless, we favour a Reds win here, suspecting their firepower may be too hot to handle on Sunday.
