Super Sunday Acca Tips: The Superest of Sunday’s

It’s Sheffield United v Manchester City, Burnley v Aston Villa and Newcastle v Liverpool for this week’s Super Sunday Acca Tips – not bad, right?.

I really think this Super Sunday will have it all. No doubt a thumping at Bramall Lane, a goal laden affair between The Clarets and the clarets and an fascinating battle at St James’ Park.

I fancy goals in one game, an away result in another and a home side to struggle in the final game, no prizes for guesses what’s what though…

Acca odds: 4.76

Odds via bet365 as at 20:00, August 2023. Odds may now differ.

Sheffield United vs Manchester City: Blunt Blades at Bramall Lane

England, Premier League, Sunday, August 27th 14:00 (UK)

One of Super Sunday’s 14:00 games takes place at Bramall Lane, where Sheffield United host Manchester City.

The visitors’ price of 1.17 (85.7% implied probability) tells you everything you need to know about the hosts’ chances.

The Blades’ strategy of selling their two best players days before the season began was an odd one, and it left them a much weaker side than the one that gained promotion.

Unsurprisingly, they have taken zero points from their opening two games. The writing looks to be on the wall for the South Yorkshire outfit as if they are going to retain their top-flight status – picking up points against sides such as Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest is a must.

The consensus around the club is not as doom and gloom as it was on the eve of the Palace game, though. Gustavo Hamer has joined the club and marked his debut with a fine goal; he was the catalyst for a spirited second-half performance at the City Ground.

Cameron Archer looks to be following Hamer through the door, two stand-out performers in the second tier last campaign.

Even with the pair potentially bolstering the host’s ranks, I do not expect them to lay a glove on City on Sunday.

Both teams to score ‘no’ is the play here, and it seems large at 1.65.

Burnley vs Aston Villa: + Goals Galore at Turf Moor

England, Premier League, Sunday, August 27th 14:00 (UK)

Burnley was not in action last weekend; their clash with fellow promoted side Luton was postponed, so The Clarets will come into this clash well-rested.

In contrast, Aston Villa will not. Sunday’s visitors followed their 4-0 thumping of Everton with a 5-0 thrashing of Hibernian in the Europa Conference League play-off first leg. Nine goals scored and no goals conceded, the perfect response to a 5-1 defeat at St James’ Park on match day one.

Unai Emery’s start to the campaign seems to promise goals. As The Villan’s last two games have shown, they have no trouble finding the net, but in their first fixture, we saw a stubbornness to Emery that could cost his side plenty of points this campaign.

The Spanish supremo was unwilling to budge on his high line, an approach that Newcastle capitalised on time and time again.

This glut of goals is nothing new, though; last season under Emery, Villa’s league games averaged 2.69 per game. I was a little surprised to see over 2.5 goals a shade of odds on at Turf Moor on Sunday.

Newcastle vs Liverpool: Reds underrated in Tyneside

England, Premier League, Sunday, August 27th (16:30) (UK)

Newcastle have made an impressive start to the campaign; the aforementioned demolition of Villa was followed by a narrow 1-0 defeat at the Etihad.

In truth, though, that scoreline did not reflect Manchester City’s dominance. The hosts never looked in danger, and Phil Foden dazzled; Newcastle only generated an xG of 0.30.

The game was a good indication of how far The Magpies are from being title contenders.

The hosts are priced as favourites as they welcome Liverpool on Sunday, the highlight of Super Sunday. I was surprised to see them at 2.20, though.

Liverpool and Arsenal were among the two sides to beat Newcastle at St James’ Park last season.

The hosts went off at 2.55 against the Reds and 2.34 against the Gunners, but I struggle to see why they have shortened as much as they have for this clash.

Sure, they have strengthened, but so have Liverpool. In fact, Jurgen Klopp’s side looks much better than last campaign.

I think siding with the visitors to get a result and backing Liverpool with a +0.5 headstart on the Asian handicap is the way to go here.

  • Selection: Liverpool AH (+0.5)
