Silkeborg v Nordsjaelland: Expecting goals in sunny Silkeborg
Denmark, Superliga, Sunday, August 20th, 13:00 (UK)
The Danish Superliga is just four games in, but there has been plenty of goals, especially when Nordsjaelland are involved. The current league leaders have won every game so far with the following amount of goals (5,4,4 and 5).
Silkeborg are the hosts; they’ve had an average start but have also been amongst the goals with 12 in their opening four outings. Fifty-four shots have been unleashed this season so far from Kent Nielsen’s side, with 56 coming against them.
Nordsjaelland currently lead the shot count 51-39, and you’d have to expect another entertaining affair when these sides meet at Jysk Park. 13 different players have scored this campaign between the two clubs, proving that goals can come from anyone, anywhere.
Johannes Thorup’s side has a Europa Conference League clash with Romanian outfit FCSB on Thursday, but that shouldn’t take much out of them. They won 5-0 in their previous league outing just three days after playing the opening leg in Bucharest, a neutral location.
I’m happy to get onside with the goal line here; Silkeborg has looked like a real threat in both of their home encounters so far; they’ve created upwards of 2xG in each. I expect both sides to contribute to what’s expected to be a sunny afternoon in Silkeborg.

Girona v Getafe: Girona too strong for grim Getafe
Spain, La Liga, Sunday, August 20th, 14:30 (UK)
Getafe’s La Liga season opener against Barcelona was in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. High tempers and continuous off-the-ball instances overshadowed the fact that they earned a valuable point against the champions.
Pepe Bordalas’ side struggled on the road in 22/23, winning just three of 19 and scoring 13 goals. Seven of those were converted by Unes Unal, which, unfortunately for Getafe, is suffering from a cruciate ligament injury.
Girona were one of the standout sides in Spain last year; they were an excellent team to watch as they’d often find themselves amongst a thriller. Only Barca, Real, Atletico and Villarreal scored more, whilst the eventual bottom four were the only sides to concede a greater amount of goals.
The hosts recorded maximum points in 10 of their 19 home league matches last campaign. They beat seven sides who finished in the bottom 10, including all of the bottom six. The addition of Artem Dovbyk looks like a really smart piece of business. The Ukrainian made an instant impact on his debut after coming off the bench and equalising shortly after.
Girona’s price appeals, they proved last year that they have the capabilities of beating the lower-ranked sides at home. They’ve had a strong preseason and picked up a great result on the opening weekend. Getafe lacks firepower, so it wouldn’t come as a shock if they fail to find the back of the net.
- Selection: Girona Win
- Best Odds: 2.05
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
Lecce v Lazio: There should be only one loser in the battle of the L’s
Italy, Serie A, Sunday, August 20th, 19:45 (UK)
Lazio head to Lecce on Sunday night in Serie A, Stadio Via del Mare wasn’t exactly an intimidating venue for visiting sides last season, as the side from southern Italy recorded just a trio of wins in front of the home fans.
Maurizio Sari’s side performed well on the road last season; they recorded 11 wins and lost just four times across 19 outings. Three of those defeats came against Juve, Inter and Milan.
Despite finishing runners-up, Lazio scored fewer goals than anyone else within the top five. Ciro Immobile had his lowest goal tally since he joined the club. However, the additions of Gustav Isaksen and Taty Castellanos appear to be exciting. The Dane scored 18 for Midtjylland, whilst Taty bagged 13 for Girona in 22/23.
Only 12 goals were scored against Lazio on their travels, the best tally in the division. They recorded exactly the same record at home as they did away (11-4-4), whereas Lecce performed slightly better on the road.
Backing Lazio on the -0.25 handicap looks like a sensible angle. They will have plenty of firepower with the likes of Immobile as well as the new additions. The majority of their squad has remained, with the standout departure being Sergej Milinkovic Savic.
Finding the back of the net could be another tricky task for Lecce this season; they scored 33 times in 38 matches in 22/23. Only three players managed more than four last campaign, one of those was Lorenzo Colombo; he’s now returned to Milan after his season-long loan.
- Selection: Lazio -0.25 Asian Handicap
- Best Odds: 1.840
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stake: 7/10
