We’ve got four expert tips for you to sink your teeth into during the international break’s slim schedule. When there’s a will, there’s a way, though, and with that, each of Jack Wright, Scott Thornton, Daniele Fisichella, and Matt Kirby have plucked out a selection they’re still happy to put their name and hard-earned towards.
Four footballing institutions host the expert’s acca this week: Ukraine, Barnet, Serbia and Stevenage.

UEFA, European Championship Qualifiers, Saturday September 9th, 17:00
One of the first lessons a former senior manager told me was KISS. Upon seeing my blank expression in response (he soon got used to that one), he replied, “Keep It Simple, Stupid.”
As we get no extra returns for ingenuity, that is exactly what I am doing here with this very obvious selection: Harry Kane to score against Ukraine at the Tarczynski Arena, a neutral venue in the Polish city of Wroclaw.
The 30-year-old will captain England in his first appearance since joining Bayern Munich. It must be a massive relief to have the speculation surrounding his future put to bed, and he can now put his complete focus into his on-pitch performances. Not that his goal-scoring seemed to suffer prior to the move.
It will have pleased Gareth Southgate to see his star striker hit the ground running in the Bundesliga, firing in three goals from his first three starts for his new club.
The Three Lions have roared out of the blocks to top Group C with four wins from their opening four fixtures, plundering 15 goals along the way whilst conceding just once.
Their all-time record goalscorer has been at the heart of that electric start. He will be looking to add to his 58 goals from 84 full internationals here.
Kane has scored in each of the four qualifiers so far, hitting the back of the net five times in total. Included in that was the opening goal to help his country to a 2-0 victory against Ukraine at Wembley in March.
The former Spurs man was also on the scoresheet in the two nations’ prior meeting. Scoring twice as England romped to a 4-0 Euro 2020 quarter-final win in Rome.
With 20 goals to his name from his last 17 competitive starts, of which he has scored in 16. The odds-against quote here is simply too good to let pass by. Harry, score here, and I owe you a kiss.
England, National League, Saturday 9th September, 15:00
Barnet leads the way in the National League. They have 16 points after seven matches, but just one point separates them from fourth-placed Hartlepool. Nicke Kabamba has five goals so far this season and will be a threat to this shaky Altrincham defence.
Altrincham’s defence continued to wilt last weekend. They were beaten 2-1 to ensure our early bird acca was a success. This week, they make an appearance in the expert’s acca. Phil Parkinson’s side have a dangerous attack, and they sit just outside the playoffs at this stage.
The likes of Regan Linney and Dior Angus have posted decent numbers so far. Justin Amaluzor also managed to find the net in Linney’s absence against Bromley.
Two of Barnet’s three matches at the Hive have ended 3-2. Their matches so far have seen them average two goals per game while their opponents have scored 1.14.
Both teams have scored in all seven of Altrincham’s league matches so far, and this bet has landed in all three of their matches on the road. The Robins’ games are averaging 3.57 goals per game; this increases to five in away matches.
UEFA, European Championship Qualifiers, September 7th, 19:45
This top-of-the-table clash promises to be an entertaining match, although it will be played behind closed doors.
The hosts have only lost one of their last 13 home games and have won their Nations League group. Regardless of the outcome of these qualifiers, Serbia are guaranteed a place in the play-off, but this should not detract from the entertainment.
The Serbs are a very attacking side, with Dusan Vlahovic (three goals in the qualifiers so far and three in his Serie A campaigns) who will play alongside Aleksandar Mitrović (52 goals for his national team in 81 appearances).
The likes of Milinkovic-Savic, Tadic and Kostic also represent a threat, whereas the back three has not always been convincing.
Hungary were beaten by Serbia 1-0 in a friendly in March 2022, but their recent results have been impressive. They’re top of the group on goal difference, have kept four clean sheets in a row and are unbeaten in their last three away games, including a 4-0 win against England and a draw in Germany.
They’re a hardworking, well-drilled side that can stifle top oppositions, but they also have plenty of talent up front: Dominik Szoboszlai has scored his first goal in a Liverpool shirt at the weekend, Rolland Sallai has played for Freiburg for the last six years, and Milos Kerkez earned a move to Bournemouth this summer after a very good season with AZ. I feel they’ll give Serbia more than one problem.
England, League One, Saturday, September 9th, 15:00
Stevenage have taken to life in League One like a duck to water, winning four of their six games. It has ushered them into third place, just behind Exeter on goal difference.
The same cannot be said of Carlisle, who followed Stevenage up after their League Two play-off final win on penalties. Paul Simpson’s side earned their first league win last weekend, but on the road, they’ve found it tough.
So far, the Cumbrians have made the trip to Port Vale and Oxford – losing both games 1-0. They’ve struggled to create in and around the opponent’s penalty area. At the Kassam, they failed to have a shot on target, while they only tested the Port Vale keeper twice at Vale Park.
Just four goals scored in six games doesn’t scream of a side that’ll trouble this stubborn Stevenage backline. Since the start of last season, only Leyton Orient (17) have kept more home clean sheets in the top four tiers of English football than the Boro (15).
We all know that Steve Evans builds his side from a solid core and goes from there. That’s been the MO this season. They’ve already kept clean sheets in four games, while only Exeter and Portsmouth have conceded fewer goals (2) than Evans’s side (3).
It’s no surprise that Stevenage have already scored four goals from set-pieces – level for the most with Derby, Exeter and Wycombe, so the Carlisle box could feature under some aerial bombardment.
Man Utd loanee Charlie McNeill opened his account for Stevenage on his debut in last weekend’s 3-0 win over Leyton Orient, and his pace down the right could offer the hosts plenty of threat to trouble Carlisle as well.
Stevenage picked up four points out of six against Carlisle last season, including a 2-1 win here at the Lamex. And following some shrewd signings at the end of the summer window, on top of an already sturdy defence, the hosts can strangle the life out of the Cumbrians and go top of the table.
