As Tottenham prepare for a return to the Champions League, they do so with an extra £150m in their pocket and these funds have not appeared because of their top-four domestic finish, but thanks to the board unlocking considerable funds for the summer.
This means now is a rather good time to be a Tottenham supporter and with Antonio Conte looking to assemble a group of players that is capable of winning the Premier League, it is set to be a busy couple of months in the white half of North London.
In terms of where Tottenham need to strengthen, it is their defence which is arguably the biggest concern for manager Antonio Conte and although his charges did incredibly well at the very end of the previous campaign, a refresh of personnel may be deemed necessary.
Then again, Conte will not stop there. Although Tottenham have a very strong first eleven, there are continual questions regarding squad depth. Which is something that the former Inter and Chelsea boss will look to address before the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
This means supplements in both midfield and attack will be necessary during the summer break and who knows, there may even be a competent backup installed for Tottenham’s talisman.
According to the bookmakers, the following players are the most likely to sign for Tottenham this summer:
Although journalists will quickly spend Tottenham’s summer war chest, the club may show just a little more prudence when it comes to targets and with that in mind, here are five moves that could well be completed over the summer.
All odds quoted are the best odds available as at 11:00 on June 7th 2022. Odds may now differ.
Although Tottenham were politely told no thanks by Pau Torres 12 months ago, his opinion may have recently changed and the reason for this is because the North London outfit can offer him what Villarreal cannot.
That of course being Champions League football and with Torres also being watched by Manchester United in recent times, it may be that a return to Europe’s premier club competition edges the defender closer to Spurs.
Pau Torres is currently at odds 6.00 to sign with Tottenham
Then again, if Tottenham were unsuccessful in their pursuit of Pau Torres, they could just as easily divert their attention elsewhere and that attention could take them to the home of the defending Premier League champions.
Especially as left-footed centre backs are something of a premium these days and with Nathan Ake being overlooked at the Etihad, a move to another Champions League representative could seem rather appealing to the Dutch international.
Nathan Ake is currently at odds 11.00 to sign with Tottenham
While Tottenham may even take a further look at what is on offer at the Etihad and with Gabriel Jesus set to be the attacking odd man out, a move to North London looks set to be on the cards for the Brazilian.
Especially as it looks as if both Tottenham and Arsenal are the frontrunners to land his signature and once again, the carrot of playing against Europe’s elite may just be enough to pip their nearest rivals.
Gabriel Jesus is currently at odds 7.00 to sign with Tottenham
With Eriksen’s short-term contract at Brentford now coming to an end, there is intense debate as to whether Tottenham could and should make a bid to re-sign the Danish international midfielder.
Especially as Eriksen has previous experience of playing under Antonio Conte and although they say you should never go back in football, signing Eriksen on a free transfer would be a rather risk-free move.
Christian Eriksen is currently at odds 2.50 to sign with Tottenham
While if Tottenham are looking to get the band back together, they could also do a lot worse than landing Gareth Bale on a free transfer. Admittedly the Welsh forward is only looking to keep fit before the World Cup, but it could also be a marriage of huge convenience.
Because Bale gets the fleeting minutes without testing his hamstrings too much and Tottenham get a world-class forward who can be slotted into any of the three attacking positions when needed.
