Tottenham vs Portsmouth Bet Builder Tips: Saturday, January 7th

We are up for the cup this weekend with Tottenham vs Portsmouth bet builder tips ready to unveil. Can managerless Pompey find some much-needed support for their travelling fans?

Can Tottenham build on an impressive second half display at Crystal Palace in midweek or will Portsmouth pull off one of the biggest upsets of the weekend?

Tottenham vs Portsmouth Preview

England, FA Cup, Saturday, January 7th, 12:30 (UK)

45 minutes in to Tottenham’s trip to Crystal Palace and supporters would likely have been fearing more of the worst. A blistering second-half performance at Selhurst Park has teed that same support up before the weekend.

Because Spurs’ trophy drought is a well-publicised issue. Success in the FA Cup may offer the club their only realistic chance of finally winning a first piece of silverware in 15 years.

The problem is not the upcoming visit of Portsmouth, but more the desire that is lacking from Antonio Conte. The manager has recently gone on record and said that cup competitions are not of great interest. This is something that Pompey may play up to.

While it is fair to say that the visitors certainly need some respite from affairs in League One. Languishing in midtable and no manager at the helm after the sacking of Danny Cowley. A team in disarray or one with nothing to lose?

In the opinion of caretaker manager Simon Bassey, it will certainly be the latter of the two. Tasked with taking the team to North London, he will look to return to the South Coast with at least a replay to look forward to.

Ultimately their chances will be interlinked with just how serious Conte takes this fixture. It has already been shown that there is little in the way of depth at Tottenham right now, he may just need his biggest names to secure victory on Saturday.

Tottenham vs Portsmouth Stats & Facts

  • Looking at the head-to-head record of the two clubs, there is very little difference in terms of performance. Tottenham have won 27 outings, Portsmouth 28 and there have been 26 draws.
  • While the most memorable win for Pompey will surely be their 2010 FA Cup semi-final success at Wembley.
  • Going into this game, Portsmouth have falled to win any of their last nine league outings – a run which ultimately cost Danny Cowley his job as manager.
  • As for Spurs, they picked up a first league win in three attempts on Wednesday, as they eventually breezed past Crystal Palace.

Tottenham vs Portsmouth Bet Builder

With the FA Cup being down the priority list for a number of Premier League outfits, there is a question as to whether the biggest teams will go as strong as possible at the weekend. With that in mind, I have avoided naming an anytime scorer.

However, I do feel that Tottenham will have enough to deal with the challenge that is soon to stand in front of them. This means the first leg of my latest bet builder is as simple as backing the home win.

From there I am taking a look at Spurs’ recent defensive woes and although they did keep a clean sheet in midweek, the magic of the cup may at least give Portsmouth a glimmer of hope.

Which is why I have opted for both teams finding the net on Saturday. There is no doubt that Portsmouth have nothing to lose and although I do not envisage cup progress for them, I do envisage them having something to celebrate.

In recent years we have seen the likes of Wycombe and Morecambe score in the white half of North London and in doing so, they have made routine cup ties look rather interesting instead.

In terms of my interest, I am also marking this game to have no more than four goals in total and the same number of cards to go alongside it. Add all four of my selections together and this bet builder is priced at odds of 6.50.

  • Tottenham to win
  • Yes on Both teams to score
  • Under 5 total goals
  • Under 5 total cards

Bet Builder odds: 6.50

Odds via bet365 as at 10:00 January 5th 2023. Odds may now differ.
