We move onto Tuesday in Andorra, with a much more action-packed day on hand, after Monday saw just four matches take place.

For our preview, we’ll look at the match between Daria Snigur and Georgina Garcia Lopez, as the two contrasting styles duel for a spot in the second round later in the week.

As mentioned, this match will come down to a battle between the power of Garica Lopez and the counterpunching ability and baseline edge of Snigur. The Ukrainian is a massive favourite to advance – deserved, considering how little her opponent has played this year – but I’m not sure this is going to be as clear-cut as the odds would indicate.

With the courts being on the quicker side, and Garcia Perez possessing an extremely strong first serve, landing those first serves consistently enough could be a great equaliser for her on their own.

The Spaniard is much more comfortable indoors on quicker courts, where her movement along the baseline is much less exploitable.

She’s had a tough go of it in 2022, battling back from injuries, but has played a few events this fall, being handed tough draws in Ajla Tomljanovic – a tour-level regular – in the second round of qualifying in Ostrava, as well as Ysaline Bonaventure – a player that is borderline tour-level in quality and whose speciality is playing on faster courts. In fact, her lone win this season indoors? Against Snigur in the opening round of qualifying in Ostrava.

I’m not one to put much stock in a singular win, but it did show that she’s capable of sticking with Snigur, who is by no means an elite player.

Snigur plays a very consistent game from the baseline, but you’d struggle to call anything in her arsenal a “weapon” – and that can be tough on quicker surfaces. With a vulnerable server, one can find themselves in trouble against the likes of a big server, where one purple patch of form on serve could be enough to wrestle away a set.

That is exactly what I’ll be backing Garcia Perez to do. Her win in Ostrava may have come in three sets and she might possess the ability to hold her service games fairly consistently on quicker surfaces, but with her injury struggles and Snigur’s ability to grind players down from the baseline, I’m far more comfortable backing the Spaniard to win a set than I am backing her to cover the 5-game handicap.

Though that is a rather enticing head start considering her game and the courts, the potential for a lopsided third-set loss has my numbers showing far more value on the +1.5 sets market at over evens than on the games handicap at under evens.
