Well, Ylena In-Albon does a nice job, winning the second set and losing in a third-set tiebreak. It was about as close a match as you’ll see and I’m happy with the thought process and wagers. The fact the bets yielded some profit makes it an all-around success in my mind.
Let’s move on to Wednesday, where we’ll look at the match between Elena Rybakina and Jule Niemeier from Stuttgart.
In this article:
April 19th, 16:00 (UK Time)
Scheduled for an evening start, this one should feature its fair share of big first serves and big groundstrokes.
While Rybakina has been one of the stars of the WTA Tour since winning Wimbledon (she reached the Australian Open final, won Indian Wells and reached the final in Miami), she’s yet to really prove herself on clay courts and has still seen a decent number of close matches during her win streaks.
That’s what we’ll be looking for on Wednesday. The courts do play a tad quicker in Stuttgart, which should help the world No. 7, but they’re far from grass or hard courts, which should help Niemeier stick around in more exchanges from the baseline.
Last season saw Rybakina play a pair of really close matches – including one against a German in which she was a strong favourite, much like she is Wednesday evening – in Stuttgart, and even in the altitude of Madrid, she only reached the round of 16, before being dispatched with relative ease.
For me the value here lies in the fact that Rybakina is on such a hot streak and is being overvalued as we return to clay.
This venue should be more manageable for her, but it’s still far from being a surface that suits her all that well.
With Niemeier possessing weapons of her own, there’s more than enough reason to believe she can send this match over the total and potentially even take a set and cause the upset.
Odds as at 12:15 am on April 19th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
