Magda Linette vs Qiang Wang Best Bet: Friday, July 29th
After skipping an event in her home country of Poland to play on hard courts in Prague (though she is slated to play a high-level Polish ITF event on hard courts next week), Magda Linette has been rewarded with a quarterfinal appearance and a strong chance to make it even further.
She’ll take on Qiang Wang, who’s had a tumultuous few years and has taken advantage of an incredible draw (both in qualifying and the main draw) to reach her second quarterfinal of the 2022 campaign.

With the courts playing quicker than past years in Prague, one can understand why Wang is having some success this week. Traditionally, her best results have come on quicker courts and she’s looked more comfortable playing on them as well.
These courts, aren’t those of Australia or Cincinnati though, and I’m not sure they’re quick enough to allow her to hit through Linette.
You could also make the case that her opposition is far more responsible for making her look strong this week than the conditions. Dalila Jakupovic has been downright awful for a while now, Kayla McPhee is still developing and far from WTA Tour ready and Valeria Savinykh isn’t close to be tour-level quality either. There’s a reason the Chinese native was about 1.15 to win each of those matches in the betting markets.
In her lone test against quality competition, she needed a third-set tiebreak to beat an out-of-form and error-prone Rebecca Peterson.
I’m still not sold on her form just yet.
Then there’s the matchup issue. Linette is incredibly consistent from the baseline and a talented counter-puncher. Put her up against someone that plays with pace, but can be erratic and she’s in her ideal situation. Wang fits that bill pretty darn well.
With the Pole also possessing the better backhand wing and having the ability to generate pace off the forehand when the opportunities present themselves, I think she has a much larger advantage than the markets are suggesting.

With Linette matching up well, in much better form this season and the question marks surrounding Wang’s actual level at the moment when tasked with taking on a quality opponent, I think the 1.72 is presenting value in this situation.
Considering Linette has also had to play much stronger opposition to reach this point (Elise Mertens and Viktoriya Tomova), I have the fair price on her to win closer to the 1.57 to 1.61 range.
