Julia Grabher vs Emiliana Arango Best Bet: Tuesday, March 28th

Well, it was another topsy-turvy match from Qinwen Zheng, this time going the wrong way as she squandered a nice second-set lead with some incredibly erratic play.

For Tuesday, much like the men’s article, we’ll head to the altitudinous conditions of Mexico for our play, with only two women’s matches on offer in Miami, and only one of those priced up.

The women are in San Luis Potosi for their 125K event (a city that will host the men next week in a Challenger Tour tournament), and I want to look at the contest between Julia Grabher and Emiliana Arango for our best selection.

Julia Grabher vs Emiliana Arango Preview

March 28th, 22:30 (UK Time)

A matchup between two players separated by quite some margin in terms of talent, but where one player having played in similar environments of late is seeing this price point be relatively close.

For my money, Arango – who has played on clay and in altitude a few times this season, but lacks any weapons or the game to get remotely close to the WTA Tour consistently at present – is actually getting a bit too much respect.

The Colombian has found some success in her home country at the Cali 125K, as well as the Mosquera ITF event held last week, at altitude, but when it comes to decent players, there were very few to be found in either one of those draws.

The lone player with any kind of main tour pedigree she played was in Cali in early February, where she lost to Nadia Podoroska by a whopping seven-game margin.

Now taking on another player that is knocking on the door of becoming a tour regular, with a strong first serve and who has a big forehand with a preference for clay in Grabher, we’re seeing Arango priced as the slightest of underdogs.

Doesn’t make too much sense.

Now, Grabher, while a clay courter, has yet to play on the dirt yet in 2023. Her ranking has reached the point where she has the chance to play tour-level events which award more money and points, but the main tour has yet to reach clay courts, so she’s been grinding it out (rather unsuccessfully) on hard courts.

Julia Grabher vs Emiliana Arango Best Bet

I think when it comes to staking here, the aforementioned disparity in the number of matches played in recent times at altitude is going to cause my stake to be a little lower than a price like this would normally warrant.

Arango has played on clay this season, and a lot of that has come in elevated conditions.

That said, I don’t think those two factors are enough to warrant the respect we’re seeing in the betting markets. She’s a relatively small underdog in a matchup against a natural clay courter who has been playing more often than not at the WTA Tour level this season and who has the much more talented game.

The best two shots on the court are the Grabher serve and the Grabher forehand and the difference in abilities

  • Selection: Grabher to win
  • Best Odds: 1.67 (Pinnacle)
  • Stakes: 5/10
