Monday Tennis Best Bet: WTA Rome, Kamilla Rakhimova vs Elizabeth Mandlik

Kamilla Rakhimova vs Elizabeth Mandlik Best Bet: Monday, May 8th
After a great final in Madrid between the two best players in the world in Madrid in Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, we’re off to Rome, where the conditions slow down considerably, and the world No. 1 looks to win the title for the third consecutive year.
Monday, however, is dedicated to the qualifying draw getting underway, so we’ll take a look at the match between Kamilla Rakhimova and Elizabeth Mandlik.

Kamilla Rakhimova vs Elizabeth Mandlik Preview
May 8th, 15:00 (UK Time)
What a week in Spain for Mandlik, as she upset a trio of players and took Sorana Cirstea to a third-set tiebreak in the final of the 125K event in Spain as a substantial underdog as well.
The problem is, that was her first decent showing at a tournament in quite some time.
The 21-year-old was just 8-20 dating back to last year’s U.S. Open. That includes plenty of matches played at lower-level events and against some pretty poor competition.
The run in Catalonia this past week also means that she’s played quite a bit of tennis and has no day off prior to her first qualifying match this week.
Mandlik played every day from 3 May to 7 May and her last four matches all went three sets and lasted nearly nine hours combined.
With a drive to Barcelona and a flight to Rome to catch on top of her recovery and a long day on the court, this is a tough turnaround.
She’s also got plenty of flaws to her game, with erratic play often plaguing her and a second serve that is extremely vulnerable.
Finally, Rakhimova is a much more reliable player in her own right. She hasn’t been as hit or miss the last year in her results, has played far more on red clay against decent competition and should have a sizable advantage on the forehand wing in this one.
If Mandlik were playing a wild card or struggling hard courter, I’d be inclined to think she could overcome the potential fatigue and bouts of inconsistency. In this case, however, I don’t give her a very good chance of progressing to the final qualifying round.
Kamilla Rakhimova vs Elizabeth Mandlik Best Bet
I understand that the American is a form player and many of her wins a year ago came in bunches, but this is a tall task for her.
Not only does she have holes in her game that were exploited in the latter stages of 2022 and until this past week in 2023, but she’s playing a strong player in Rakhimova and the fact that this is her sixth consecutive day on the court with travel from Reus, Spain to Rome, Italy has me wary of her ability to keep her current level going.
- Selection: Rakhimova to win
- Best Odds: 1.68 (Pinnacle)
- Stakes: 6/10
Odds as at 2:30 am on May 7th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
