Tuesday Tennis Best Bet: WTA Australian Open, Karolina Pliskova vs Magda Linette
Karolina Pliskova vs Magda Linette Best Bet: Tuesday, January 24th
We’re just a few days away from crowning the first grand slam champions of the 2023 tennis season.
Just five matches remain in each of the singles draws down under, with the quarterfinals wrapping up on Tuesday night.
Let’s take a look at the matchup between Karolina Pliskova and Magda Linette for Tuesday’s best bet from the women’s side of things.

Karolina Pliskova vs Magda Linette Preview
January 25th, 00:00 (UK Time)
Another grand slam, and another quarterfinals appearance for Karolina Pliskova. Even during what has felt like a tumultuous last 12 months, the big-serving Czech has managed to reach the quarters now at both of the hard-court grand slams.
In fact, she’s made it to this stage of an event just four times since the beginning of June, with three of those coming at grand slams or 1000-level events. To say she saves her best tennis for the biggest stages wouldn’t be irresponsible.
Linette, meanwhile, must feel like she’s playing with house money. The 30-year-old from Poland is playing into the second week of a slam for just the first time.
Her counterpunching and the ability to make absolutely jaw-dropping shots has her playing the best tennis of her life. What a time to find this level.
The positive here for Pliskova is that she is more accomplished at this stage of the biggest events, which should help with the pressure that surely grows round-by-round. She also fits the profile well of a player that should be able to beat Linette.
It’s taken a big serve, the ability to win points quickly and the ability to dictate and force Linette into more defensive shots, rather than giving her enough time to be able to set up that counterpunching type of shots that can turn rallies.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pliskova into the semifinals and threatening to finally win that maiden grand slam title.
Karolina Pliskova vs Magda Linette Best Bet
Statistically, Pliskova is having an incredible start to her 2023 campaign, as well.
Her ace rate has jumped to over 14% – about five percentage points higher than her average on hard courts over the course of the last 52 weeks. She’s also seen jumps of at least 4% in terms of points won on her first and second serves.
What could be the most impressive metric of them all though, is the fact that she’s only faced a total of seven break points on serve so far through four matches of tennis.
Given how well the serve has been working, I’m happy to back her here to win and cover the handicap.
