It was a nice start from Tatjana Maria, who raced out to a 6-1, 3-0 double break start before Katrina Scott picked it up near the end. It was too little too late, however, and Maria brought both the game and set handicaps home.
For Wednesday, we’ll once again focus on the event in Bogota, Colombia, where I think the market has had a tough time really gauging what the most important factors are when it comes to pricing these matches up.
Let’s take a look at the match featuring Laura Pigossi and Natalija Stevanovic.

As I’ve mentioned in the past few writeups regarding matches in Bogota – and even those last week in San Luis Potosi – events played at altitude should be treated separately from those on the same surface played at sea level.
That means prior success at events like this or similar to this should weigh more than a traditional event.
As last year’s finalist, Pigossi checks that box. Stevanovic has only had one match in the last few years to look back on, and that was a loss as a 1.01 favourite here a few years ago.
Now, she’s won three matches this week through qualifying and her first round, but the last two were tight affairs, and neither against players I’d consider nearly as tough as Pigossi in altitude and on clay.
The Brazilian is a fairly strong favourite, but, much like Maria today, I don’t think the price is short enough.

I’m going to continue to back players I know have at least one or two runs at this level in these kinds of elevated conditions.
In this case, that’s Pigossi. Last year’s finalist dispatched her first-round opponent with ease. Considering the form mentioned earlier for Stevanovic, the lack of anything to really hurt Pigossi’s game and two lengthy matches in the final round of qualifiers and the first round against opponents that aren’t anything spectacular, I think this handicap should be much closer to 4.5 games than 3.5.
