Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Anna Bondar Best Bet: Tuesday, January 31st

The year’s first cold streak is upon us, as Alize Cornet goes down in a poor third set, as her forehand was wildly inconsistent in her first rounder with Camila Osorio.

For Tuesday’s selection, we’ll remain in Lyon, as Nuria Parrizas Diaz and Anna Bondar square off in what is a bit of an underrated tilt for a 250 first-round match.

Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Anna Bondar Preview

January 31st, 10:30 (UK Time)

The names may not be ticket-selling draws, but this match should be a fun one, between two players that are very talented, but haven’t really broken through into the mainstream just yet.

The Spaniard found her best level in her late 20s and has been rather impressive in her age-31 season to this point, despite some pretty poor sets in the matches she’s lost. Bondar, on the other hand, has had some decent success on clay in her career, but is just now starting to show some feel for play on hard courts.

With the bigger serve and a bit more pace behind her forehand, she should be able to dictate in this matchup, as Parrizas Diaz looks to counterpunch and continually find depth on her groundstrokes.

As Bondar continues to get more comfortable with the bounce and speed of hard courts, I think we’ll see her begin to close the gap that exists between her service hold rate on clay and hard courts.

Statistically, Parrizas Diaz doesn’t have that much of an advantage in the hold plus break percentage in this one, despite being seen as the stronger hard courter. With Bondar likely to find a few more quick, cheap points behind her serve and her ability to keep things close as an underdog to this point on the season, I’m happy to back the player here that has an implied probability of just 40% to win this, in what I see as anyone’s game.

Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Anna Bondar Best Bet

I’m happy to continue to back Bondar in hard-court matches, as long as the market keeps pricing her as a clay-court specialist.

She hasn’t built up the best wins just yet, but her serve and forehand are certainly up to par on the surface.

Finally, she tends to be undervalued by the market when playing on hard courts. She was a longer underdog than she should’ve been in both of her wins this season in Australia. Against Jelena Ostapenko she wasn’t even given a 50% chance to win a set against the in-form Latvian, and she played her tough until falling apart in the decider.

I’m happy to back her here at nice underdog odds once again.

  • Selection: Bondar to win
  • Best Odds: 2.50 (Bet365)
  • Stakes: 4/10

Odds as at 2:00 am on January 31st, 2022. Odds may now differ.
