Well, Casper Ruud acquitted himself decently in the French Open final, but not well enough to cover the handicap, as Novak Djokovic managed to come away with his 23rd grand slam title and win the final by six games.
For the beginning of grass season, the ATP Tour heads to Stuttgart, Germany and ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands as the short window leading into Wimbledon kicks off.
It’s the former event where our Monday preview happens, with Richard Gasquet taking on Chris Eubanks.
In this article:
June 12th, 14:30 (UK Time)
During the later weeks of the clay-court season, the French veteran mentioned in one of his on-court interviews that at his age, playing on the clay was becoming a bit too physically taxing and that he was looking forward to this portion of the calendar a bit more.
With points kept shorter, Gasquet shouldn’t find it nearly as tough to close out matches as he did on the clay and his serve should also play up a bit more on grass, while his shotmaking abilities should still be rewarded.
The fact he’s taking on Eubanks should also help. The big American is a serve-oriented kind of player, and so even points that Gasquet is losing should be rather quick.
Without the greatest return game out there as well, the Frenchman should also find himself with more breathing room in service games of his own.
While I do like Gasquet’s chances here, the pricing has this match as relatively even and I think there’s more value to be had betting on the total in this match.
My numbers tell me this should be set higher than the 23.5 games we’re seeing in the market at the time of writing.
I’ll back the over at a price that isn’t too expensive.
Odds as at 1:30 am UK Time on June 12th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
