The final match of the women’s draw has finally arrived. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek will take on one of the most in-form players of 2022 in Ons Jabeur for the U.S. Open title in the last grand slam event of the season.
It would be the Tunisian’s maiden grand slam title, after she lost the Wimbledon final from a set up. For Swiatek, it would be grand slam title number three for the 2020 and 2022 French Open victor.

After a disappointing post-Wimbledon summer hard court run that saw her win just a pair of matches between three events, Jabeur has taken New York City by storm, dropping just one set en route to reaching the final.
The 28-year-old is fresh off a dominant victory against one of the hottest players on tour in Caroline Garcia, and is having the best season of her career. Once known for not being able to win big events, Jabeur has several titles this season, and has seen deep runs at the highest level events on a consistent basis.
Equipped with a big serve and incredible variety from the baseline, Jabeur can win points in a variety of ways and has really polished her game this year. While unforced errors can still creep into her game, she’s managed to ride out those rough patches and win a ton of matches.
As for Swiatek, not much needs to be said about the young sensation from Poland. She’s had one of the most successful seasons in recent memory on the WTA Tour and will look to cap it off with a second grand slam title of the year.
With a big first serve, incredible defending and a wicked forehand that has both power and heavy topspin, she’s been tough to put away. It’s taken players with big power to rush her and punish her second serve to get the job done.
Jabeur does possess decent power and the ability to dictate points, but I’m not sure her game is quite big enough to really bother the young Pole.
Her variety may also end up being neutralised by the the incredible athletic ability and defending of the world’s top player.
I’ll be backing Swiatek to get the job done and take down her third career grand slam title.
