Friday Tennis Best Bet: WTA Bogota, Tamara Zidansek vs Peyton Stearns

Tamara Zidansek vs Peyton Stearns Best Bet: Friday, April 7th
Far too erratic from Bernarda Pera on the day, as she bows out to Daria Kasatkina in straight sets. Always the risk with her game, but at those odds, no regrets.
Let’s move onto Friday, where we’ll take a peek at the match that features Tamara Zidansek and Peyton Stearns from the event in Bogota.

Tamara Zidansek vs Peyton Stearns Preview
April 7th, 22:00 (UK Time)
It’s been a much-needed few weeks for Zidansek in San Luis Potosi and Bogota. While the fields may not be the strongest at either event, the Slovenian has made back-to-back quarterfinals on a surface she could desperately use results on.
A former top-25 player – primarily because of her strong play on clay courts in 2021 – the 25-year-old has slipped out of the world’s top-100 (though a win here sees her return to that group).
Her 2022 season was abysmal, but things appear to be looking up at the moment for her. She’s got a natural clay-court game, as she moves around the courts well, can play a consistent brand of tennis at her best and also has a decent combination of point construction and a heavy ball from her forehand wing.
Stearns, on the other hand, is different from a few perspectives. While just six spots behind her counterpart in this one in the world rankings entering this event, that actually represents a career-high for her, rather than reflecting a slide and poor form. She’s also a more natural hard-court player, though.
Equipped with a decent power game (which has served her well in the altitude of Bogota), Stearns can dictate play and isn’t afraid to take control of points. She’s come out of nowhere for many, but was actually the NCAA women’s champion when attending the University of Texas. The talent is there, and those that follow the WTA Tour are finally seeing it.
Tamara Zidansek vs Peyton Stearns Best Bet
When it comes to the value in this matchup, I’m going to slide with the player that 1) has been playing professionally much longer and 2) has had far more success on clay courts and has been playing on them her whole life.
Stearns may boast a decent record since the start of last season on the dirt, but it’s worth noting that the quality of competition is subpar and many of those matches have been played on the green clay supplied by har-tru, which doesn’t play like traditional red dirt.
I have Zidansek a decent-sized favourite in this one and still expect the price will reflect that by the time the match takes place.
For now, I’m happy to bet the Slovenian at the 1.91 odds on offer.
- Selection: Zidansek to win
- Best Odds: 2.11 (Pinnacle)
- Stakes: 4/10
Odds as at 3:30 am on April 7th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
