Well, credit to Eugenie Bouchard, who looked like she’d missed very little time in a dominant win in the Colombian capital, despite not having played in months.

For Tuesday, we’ll stick with the event at extreme altitude in Bogota and delve into the match between Tatjana Maria and Katrina Scott.

Well, we saw what happened with Scott’s first venture into both red clay and higher altitude play.

Despite being a favourite against Laura Pigossi, she was sent packing with relative ease when things were all said and done.

Now, she moves into even tougher conditions at higher elevation and is playing another seasoned veteran, who has done decently in the past at altitude.

If you recall from last week’s article, Pigossi was the runner up in Bogota in 2022. The woman that beat her? None other than Maria.

The German has the polar opposite style from someone like Pigossi, but it’s incredibly effective in its own way. Where the grinders and defenders make a ton of balls and let players hit error after error in the thinner air where it’s tough to control shots, someone like Maria uses her big booming serve to her advantage.

Without as much resistance from the thin air, big servers can find plenty of success at higher-altitude events – even on the slower clay surface.

While Maria’s week in San Luis Potosi featured both dominant play, as well as extremely poor play in her loss to Sara Errani, the fact is, she’s proven more often than not that she’s well positioned to succeed in these conditions.

Scott has such a miniscule sample size and none of it good, that I’m happy to oppose her once again this go around.

With the majority of Maria’s victories coming by a fairly wide margin, I’m not too scared of the set or game handicaps in this one.
