Thursday Tennis Best Bet: WTA Parma, Jasmine Paolini vs Danka Kovinic

Jasmine Paolini vs Danka Kovinic Best Bet: Thursday, September 29th
A nice performance from Barbora Krejcikova to get us the win on Wednesday’s selection. It was a sluggish start, with the Czech missing her fair share of shots she normally makes, but she steadied herself to come back in the first set and dominate the second.
For Thursday, we’ll go from Tallinn to the clay event in Parma and preview a matchup between Jasmine Paolini and Danka Kovinic.

Jasmine Paolini vs Danka Kovinic Preview
September 29th, 11:00 UK Time
Impressive performances from both women on Wednesday, as Paolini came back from a set down to defeat her countrywoman Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who played a strong match, mixing up consistency and power. Kovinic, meanwhile, battled through a third-set injury issue to beat Sloane Stephens in a close one to reach the quarterfinals.
In terms of the matchup on Thursday, I think Paolini is presenting some value for a few reasons. For starters, I was impressed more with her level on Wednesday, against an opponent who was doing much more to throw her off her game. As Cocciaretto played a solid, well-rounded match, Paolini waited for her chances, didn’t get impatient and spray forehand errors like she has in the past and methodically worked her way back into the match and into the winner’s circle.
The Italian is also the much better mover on any given day, let alone on Thursday in a match where Kovinic may not be 100%, have her leg wrapped and is coming off a match that lasted over 2h30m. Paolini only spent a few minutes less on court, but is the more physical player to begin with, and also doesn’t have a potential leg injury.
With Kovinic more reliant on dialling up the pace to win points, if Paolini can move her around the court effectively and keep that ball out of Kovinic’s optimal striking zone, she should be able to neutralise her game.
Finally, where Paolini can also hit through her forehand when the opportunities present themselves, she commits far fewer errors than her counterpart from the baseline, meaning she can also offer some power, but is far more consistent.
Jasmine Paolini vs Danka Kovinic Best Bet
After watching Kovinic play a less-than-convincing match against Sloane Stephens, in which she let a few balls go because of limitations to her movement and nearly blew a 5-2 lead, I’m happy to back the Italian here.
Paolini looked good in a comeback win on Wednesday, is more physically fit and her game is more well-rounded.
With her game being better than Kovinic’s to begin with, plus the consistency and health advantages, I make her a much larger favourite than we’re seeing in the market at the moment.
