Nick Kyrgios vs Karen Khachanov Best Bet: Tuesday, September 6th

We’re onto the final eight from New York City, and it appears likely that we will see a first-time grand slam champion crowned for the third consecutive season from the men’s draw.

Among them, is the new tournament favourite – Nick Kyrgios – who has started taking the sport far more seriously in 2022 and, boy, does it show.

He’ll go toe-to-toe with Karen Khachanov for a spot in the semifinal round under the lights on Arthur Ashe Stadium, and that’s where we’ll find our selection for Tuesday!

Nick Kyrgios vs Karen Khachanov Preview

September 7th, 1:30 UK Time

The 2022 season has answered many of the “how high can Kyrgios rise if he actually cared” questions. Now an incredible 21-5 on hard courts this year, Kyrgios is certainly among the tier of players I’d label as “elite” and certainly one of the favourites to win each and every tournament he enters.

Well known for his overpowering serve, Kyrgios’ game is far more nuanced than that. His backhand is far from a liability and its compact nature makes it less prone to being rushed and committing errors. His net game is superb – and along with his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis, Kyrgios has a grand slam title in doubles, earned in Australia earlier in the year. Finally, his ability to cover the court for a player of his height is incredibly impressive.

With a service hold rate of nearly 93% on hard courts in 2022, trying to break the Canberra native is going to be a tough task for Khachanov.

Armed with incredible weapons and athleticism in his own right, Khachanov has yet to find any real consistency at the top level of the men’s game. The tendency to play a very erratic game has held him back, but he’s found a strong level of play this week, outlasting the young Jack Draper and beating the ever-consistent Montreal champion Pablo Carrreno Busta.

With strong play from the baseline and the ability to dictate points in his service games, this match should come true in the entertainment department.

Nick Kyrgios vs Karen Khachanov Best Bet

With the prices for Kyrgios to win being extremely expensive, we’re seeing the total games market come in at 37 games and the Russian start with a five-game head start. For me – and as impressive as Kyrgios has been – that is a tad too much for two guys that can play long sets and for the talent level Khachanov is capable of producing.

  • Selection: Over 37 Games
  • Best Odds: 1.84 (Pinnacle)
  • Stakes: 2/10
  • Bonus: Khachanov +2.5 sets (listed as “to win a set” under the “player” tab) with Bet365 for 2/10 stakes.

Odds as at 3:15 am on September 6th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
