A nice (and rare) comeback win for us with Aliaksandra Sasnovich in Cleveland. The Belarussian came back from a set down and a 0-1* break deficit in the decider, outlasting Sara Sorribes Tormo who has played an absolute ton of tennis in the past few days now.
For Wednesday’s women’s selection, it’s off to Flushing Meadows in the New York City borough of Queens, where US Open qualifying is taking place! Let’s take a deeper look at a match between Leolia Jeanjean and underdog Ipek Oz.
In this article:
August 24th, 22:00 UK Time
Much like the men’s preview for Wednesday we’re going to focus on a matchup where the favourite is much more competent – as well as comfortable – on hard courts for our best bet.
The 2022 season has been a strong one for Jeanjean, the former collegiate tennis athlete, as she’s won two thirds of her matches and reached the final of a high-level ITF event, won another at the W25 level in dominant fashion (winning of her 10 sets by a score of 6-2 or better) and then of course reaching the third round of her home grand slam, stunning Nuria Parrizas Diaz and Karolina Pliskova as a big underdog.
The Frenchwoman’s game is predicated on incredibly intelligent tactical play, the ability to pull opponents off court with strong angles and rock-solid consistency from the baseline. To send her packing, you’d be looking for a hard courter with enough power in her game to hit Jeanjean off the court.
Oz doesn’t fit that description, as an ITF grinder, who specialises in clay-court play. With a very defensive mindset in her own right, but with far less experience and ability on hard courts, Jeanjean has a really strong chance to come through this match convincingly.
I’ll be backing the favourite from France in this matchup to cover the games handicap against Oz.
Not only does she have a better resume of work on hard courts and is in better form, but matchup wise, she is able to actually win points with her ability to construct points. Oz, on the other hand, is more dependent on opposition committing unforced errors – something that Jeanjean has never been prone to doing.
I have this handicap north of four games, as opposed to the 3.5 games we’re seeing on offer.
Odds as at 09:30 am on August 24th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
