Iga Swiatek vs Ajla Tomljanovic Best Bet: Wednesday, October 5th

Another nice day on Tuesday, as Harriet Dart does manage to avenge her prior loss on hard courts against Nuria Parrizas Diaz with a nice performance in Monastir.

For Wednesday, we’ll look at the match at the 500-level event in Ostrava, Czech Republic between Iga Swiatek and Ajla Tomljanovic, as the world No. 1 looks to continue building on one of the best seasons we’ve ever seen.

Iga Swiatek vs Ajla Tomljanovic Preview

October 5th, 15:00 UK Time

The quest for title number eight in 2022 begins on Wednesday for Swiatek, as she gets ready to take on Tomljanovic on the slower hard courts in Ostrava. What’s more impressive is that each of the prior seven have come at well-known events. From the French Open and U.S. Open at the grand slam level, to the biggest events one step below like Miami, Indian Wells and Rome, Swiatek has absolutely dominated the WTA Tour in 2022.

She’s also played Tomljanovic, losing just three games in Toronto, in conditions that were likely a tad kinder to the Aussie.

Despite being tall, and possessing a decent first serve, Tomljanovic doesn’t have the overwhelming power it takes to really trouble Swiatek. She also won’t receive any assistance from the slow courts in Ostrava, which should play to the Pole’s liking and afford her plenty of time to set up her groundstrokes. Trying to grind Iga down from the baseline rarely works for anyone.

Furthermore, Swiatek has all the necessary tools to cover larger game spreads or ensure the match stays under the total games number.

She’s won over half her games on return in 2022 – a number that is eye-poppingly good – has a strong first serve of her own, moves well, can dictate with pace and spin on her forehand wing and still has plenty of consistency in lengthier baseline exchanges.

That has led not only to straight sets wins, but also one-sided, dominant victories, where opponents struggle to get to three or four games in a set more often than not.

Iga Swiatek vs Ajla Tomljanovic Best Bet

If the courts played quicker in Ostrava, or Tomljanovic had the power of players like Aryna Sabalenka or Jule Niemeier who pushed Swiatek in New York City, I’d be keen to back her to keep things close.

The fact is, her game profiles awfully in a matchup with the top player in the women’s game and the conditions only add to the 21-year-old’s advantage.

I’ll be backing Iga to get this done in an efficient manner.
