Wednesday, July 6th, 13:00 UK Time

It’ll be a battle of two big servers to open Wednesday’s action on Court No. 1 at Wimbledon, as Ajla Tomljanovic and Elena Rybakina do battle for a spot in the semifinals.

Being in the second week at the All England Club is a familiar feeling for both women, as the Aussie managed to reach this stage a year ago (losing to her countrywoman, and eventual champion, Ashleigh Barty), while Rybakina reach the fourth round in 2021, falling in three sets to Aryna Sabalenka.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that these two have both managed to go back-to-back in reaching the latter stages of the year’s lone grass major. Tomljanovic and Rybakina both possess elite first serves and the ability to crush the ball from the forehand wing. Neither one is equipped with a backhand that would stand out, though I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it’s a weakness for either woman.

Despite not having dropped a set to this point at The Championships, Rybakina has still played a slew of relatively close matches. Six of the eight sets she has contested (and won) have gone at least 12 games. I wouldn’t expect this matchup to be much different.

With both women posting elite hold plus break percentages through four matches, I’m expecting a relatively high-quality match. While much of it is likely to feature serve plus first forehand tennis, I would expect both women to be rather aggressive in their service games and look to rack up the holds of serve.

With Rybakina’s propensity to play tight sets (especially against fellow power-oriented players), and Tomljanovic now into her first match of the fortnight against someone whose returning ability isn’t the focal point of their game, I’ll be looking to back the total games over market in this matchup, similar to Tuesday’s selection from the women’s draw.

  • Selection: Over 21.5 games
  • Odds: 1.88 (Unibet)
  • Stakes: 2/10

Odds are valid as of 09:00 am on 6th July 2022. Odds may now differ.
