That was some kind of loss. Marketa Vondrousova led 6-1, 5-1 serving for the match at 30-30 two points on serve from the win. Lost that game and the next three, and only wins the match 6-1, 7-6 to lose the bet by the slightest of margins. We’ve had plenty of those massive chokes on bets this year. This one easily takes the cake as the worst. This is why I simply won’t go with larger stakes anymore at this stage of the season.
Onto Tuesday where we’ll look at the match featuring Clara Tauson and Sabine Lisicki.
In this article:
December 6th, 12:00 UK Time
This matchup does provide some value for my money in some capacities, but I will warn you, it has the potential to be a tough match to watch.
Tauson and Lisicki are both players that are never scared to take big cuts and go for some powerful groundstrokes, but that also results in a lot of unforced errors, and with neither woman really possessing a secondary plan of attack, that approach can lead to stretches of lopsided play.
That being said, they also have similar strengths. Each of them possesses a strong, pacy first serve, meaning both can find some relatively easy holds in service games where they land a few first serves on the trot.
Each also plays with a rather aggressive mentality. While the errors may creep into their game and they may not have a second way to win points, they both show a fearlessness that allows them to work their way out of a rut and get back on track.
As a result, I have this matchup a bit closer than the odds would suggest. I don’t have a problem with the younger Dane being a favourite, but the extent to which the market favours her goes a bit far.
With some value on Lisicki, it comes down to finding the best way to capitalise.
Tauson may be in form after winning a W25 event recently, but that week was far from dominant in terms of her results – she entered each match as a sub-1.15 favourite and played far too many long sets and matches that went over 20-22 games for the competition she was playing.
It’s true that Lisicki hasn’t played a whole lot of late, but the fact is, she’s not going to be intimidated by the big hitting of Tauson, she’s well-positioned to keep things close by being a strong server in her own right, and with her opposition having struggled to find the court on a consistent basis for most of this season, I’m happy to back her to keep this one close in some capacity.
I’ll look to the over games market to do just that.
Odds as at 7:40 pm on December 5th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
