Relatively dominant match from one of the better clay-court prospects in the game, as Sara Bejlek was the far better returner in a match that was return-centric, winning 6-3, 6-2 against Italian veteran Sara Errani.
Onto Wednesday, where we’ll stick with the matches in Colina, Chile and preview the contest between Kateryna Baindl and Tamara Zidansek.

Another match, another great chance for Zidansek to continue building form ahead of her 2023 campaign.
After a match in which she was clearly the better player, but struggled to gain any kind of footing on return in the second set, she’ll take on a much different kind of player this time around as she vies for a spot in the quarterfinals in Chile.
Baindl is a much more defensive-minded player, and while she doesn’t necessarily specialise on any particular surface, she isn’t particularly weak anywhere either.
Her first-rounder was no easy feat, either, defeating Rosa Vicens Mas in a pair of relatively close sets.
As a rock-solid baseliner, Baindl gives almost nothing away. She also lacks any real power from the baseline or on serve, which should make things a tad easier on return for the Slovenian.
The question in this one will come down to whether Zidansek can keep the unforced errors under control, as she did in the first and third sets against Harmony Tan.
With the return of serve likely becoming easier, if she can find a steady dose of first serves and ensure she plays with a more controlled aggression on her forehand wing, she should find her way past the Ukrainian whose record on clay this season is barely a winning one, and one that has plenty of losses to players of Zidansek’s calibre.
I once again find myself in strong disagreement with the market in my assessment of Zidansek’s chances in this match.
Last time it was over the handicap, which unfortunately missed by the slightest of margins, despite a strong start. This time, it’s over the odds on who’s more likely to simply emerge victorious.
I have Zidansek a relatively strong favourite on clay here. The fact they’re playing in a decent amount of altitude should also help her as the slightly more aggressive player. I’m glad to back her again in this one, without having to give up a head start this time.
