Newcastle vs Ipswich Prediction: Team News and Lineups Preview
Matthew O’Regan has his Newcastle vs Ipswich prediction preview as the sides meet at St. James Park. The hosts sit fifth in the league, while the visitors will be officially relegated if they fail to win or West Ham get a point at Brighton. When the sides met earlier in the season, Newcastle ran out comfortable 0-4 winners thanks to a goal from Jacob Murphy and an Alexander Isak hat trick. With The Tractor Boys priced as high as 12/1 to win, the bookmakers are perhaps predicting yet another comfortable win for Eddie Howe’s side.
Newcastle vs Ipswich Prediction: Tractor Boys To Plough Shots
England, Premier League, Saturday, April 26th, 15:00 (UK)
A six game winning run that saw Newcastle score 17 goals and win the EFL Cup was abruptly halted with a 4-1 dismantling at Villa, with Ollie Watkins opening the scoring after just a minute. Eddie Howe’s side still remain well in contention for the Champions League, sat two points clear of the chasing pack and just two points off third place Manchester City.
The Magpies have a tough ending to the season so will be keen to ensure they put a leaky Ipswich side to the sword. In Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak, Newcastle boast two of the three players with the most Premier League goal contributions in the league, so they will fancy their chances on Saturday.
Despite their potent attack, Newcastle’s defence has been susceptible at times – conceding the second most goals out of the sides in the European places. They also concede an average of 12.67 shots and 4.26 shots on target per 90, so there looks to be some value in shots for the visitors. At home, The Magpies have conceded at least nine shots in 14/16 home league games, with games against Aston Villa and Wolves in December the only game to go under.
Ipswich’s destiny looks to have been written on the wall for months, with Wolves pulling away from the bottom three. Anything but a win sends Ipswich down, but it is only a matter of time before they are officially relegated. However, Kieran McKenna will set his side up to try and get a positive result and give their travelling fans something to cheer about. Ipswich are averaging 8.62 shots per 90 away from home, with their average increasing since the arrival of Julio Enciso on loan from Brighton.
The Tractor Boys only registered four shots away at Aston Villa but had ten men for the majority of the game. Since then, they have recorded 12 shots at Old Trafford, 15 at Selhurst Park, 10 at Dean Court and 13 at Stamford Bridge. Ipswich have nothing to lose and with Newcastle expected to race into an early lead, there could be scope for some late shots as the hosts take their foot off the gas.
