In this article:
It all came crashing down for the Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) last weekend, trudging to a brutal 42-19 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field. The Niners were better in every department and now Philly has to wake itself up for a divisional game against the Cowboys – who have been breathing down their necks all season.
Dallas (9-3) is now just one game back from their bitter rivals – though the Eagles own the tiebreaker – and can draw level at 10-3 with a victory on Sunday Night Football.
They’ve been putting on an offensive clinic in the last few weeks with Dak Prescott playing at an MVP-calibre level, averaging 42.0 points per game since their Week 9 defeat at Philadelphia.
The Cowboys are averaging a league-high 32.3 points per game through 13 weeks, which jumps to an absurd 41.0 points per game in their home stadium.
Philadelphia, despite adding several pieces to their defence this season – including safety Kevin Byard and most recently linebacker Shaquille Leonard – have allowed opponents to score at the 9th highest mark in the league (24.0 ppg) and have seen their opponents surpass 29 points in three of their last four.
Dallas themselves, who only managed 23 points in the reverse fixture, could have had 30+ points if things had gone slightly differently – with three separative drives ending pointless inside Philadelphia’s redzone.

The Cowboys come into this one on extended rest, having dispatched of the Seattle Seahawks 41-35 on Thursday Night Football last week.
Dak Prescott had 275 yards and 3 passing touchdowns for the fifth time in his last six games, as he puts together an impressive run of form that has seen Dallas go 5-1 since their bye week.
Prescott leads the league in passing TDs (26) and is quietly putting together the best campaign of his eight-year professional career.
As a result of this, Dallas are one of the favourites to add to their trophy cabinet this year. They are a best-price 4.80 to leapfrog their opponents into winning the NFC East, 6.0 to go on to win the NFC Conference, and as short as 9.0 to make it a first Super Bowl since 1995.
The Philadelphia Eagles have had to get over last week and do it fast with the Cowboys on the horizon, as a devastating defeat at the hands of NFC rivals San Francisco threatens to send their impressive season into a spiral.
The Birds have serious issues defensively and Brock Purdy was able to cut through their coverage schemes like a knife through butter, while the tandem of Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey looked almost unstoppable.
They know how to win tough games though – having beaten Dallas, Miami, Buffalo, and Kansas City already this year – and have been no strangers to adversity, battling through injuries to have the NFL’s best record.
At 10-2, the Eagles are favourites to win the NFC East – as short as 1.17 – but were bumped to 3.60 second-favourites for the NFC by San Francisco. It’s a similar story for the Lombardi trophy, where they are second fiddle once again to the Niners at 7.00.
The Sunday Night Football selection is aired on Sky Sports NFL from 01:20 in the early hours of Monday morning.
