‘Primetime’ unders have cashed at an alarming rate in the NFL so far this year, and it still feels like the bookies are being cautious about going too low with their lines. The under has cashed in 73% (27/37) of primetime games so far in 2023, and hits at almost 63% over the last five years.
Often expected to be one of the league’s highest-scoring, the Kansas City Chiefs (8-3) have been notorious offenders for going under the total so far this season. KC are 8-3 to the under in 2023, averaging 39.7 total points per game – which drops to 38.1 per game over their last six.
Green Bay Packers (5-6) on the other hand, despite enjoying an offensive breakout for Jordan Love over the last three weeks, are 5-2 to the under since Week 4 – seeing 43 points or less in six of those games.

The Packers reeled off their best performance of the season so far with a short-handed Thanksgiving Day victory over divisional rivals Detroit, in which quarterback Jordan Love looked like he’d finally turned a corner.
It took Green Bay to 5-6 on the season, having won three of their last four, and was the first time they’d gone over 43 total points in a game since facing the Lions in Week 4.
They come into this one-off extended rest (having played Thursday) and will be hopeful of seeing key pieces on defence return to the fold for a matchup with the league’s best quarterback.
The key to the game for the Packers will be the performance of both their offensive and defensive lines, with pass-rusher Rashan Gary coming off a career-best performance at Ford Field last week.
The Packers are currently 8th in the NFC standings and are 21.00 to win the NFC North – and an even longer 126.00 to win the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs were able to dig themselves out of a 14-0 hole against the Las Vegas Raiders pretty handily, coming from behind to win 31-17 and move to 8-3 on the season into the #2 seed in the AFC.
KC have been slightly undervalued in the markets so far this year, with the win over Las Vegas taking them to 7-4-0 ATS, and that’s partly due to the mess they’ve been dealing with at wide receiver.
Rashee Rice looks to have won the WR1 role finally, and he was the only wideout targeting more than three times against the Raiders – catching eight of 10 targets for 107 yards and a score.
Kansas City remains the bookmakers’ favourite to win the AFC at 3.00, while they’re a best price of 5.75 to repeat their SuperBowl success.
Sunday Night Football is live on Sky Sports Main Event in the UK.
