2022 World Cup Group Winner Acca

With the World Cup now a matter of days away, we’ve got three group winner selections combined into a World Cup group winner acca. Two hot favourites who I can’t see dropping any points on their way to the last 16. Added to those a country who appear to be good value to upset the market leader in their section.

In this article:

Group C Preview

The Group C storyline revolves around Lionel Messi. The 35-year-old star has gone on record as saying that the Qatar tournament would be “the last one.” He would dearly love to be the first Argentinian to lift the trophy since Diego Maradona in 1986.

This group also contains another legend of the modern game. Robert Lewandowski will be looking to replicate his early season Barcelona form for Poland in what is likely to be his last World Cup also.

Mexico last failed to qualify for a World Cup in 1982 (they were banned in 1990). Their latest squad looking to shake off the “quintido partido” curse. Claimed to exist by their fans due to never being able to reach the fifth game of the tournament. El Tri exiting each of their last seven attempts at the Round of 16 stage.

Saudi Arabia completes the section. This will be the Green Falcons sixth appearance in the World Cup but are likely to be the whipping boys of Group C.

Group C Winner Best Bet

It has to be Argentina. La Albiceleste navigated South American qualification undefeated, extending a run which now stretches back to 2019 and comprises 35 games. During that sequence, Lionel Scaloni also guided his side to the Copa América, their first major trophy in 28 years. Expect the strength of depth in their squad to take them deep into this tournament. Starting their campaign by topping this group.

  • Selection: Argentina to win Group C
  • Best Odds: 1.40 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Group F Preview

2018 Play-Off winners Belgium are the favourites in Group F. Looking to go a game further than their last attempt which is their best World Cup finish to date. Recently replaced as number 1 ranked team by Brazi the Red Devils won six of their eight qualifying matches drawing the other two. A goal difference of +19 shows their domination over Wales, Czech Republic, Estonia and Belarus.

Croatia were the dark horses in Russia and made it all the way to the final before losing 4-2 to France. Luka Modric at 37, is another elite player gracing this showpiece occasion for the last time.

Morocco have an exciting squad and are ranked 22nd in the world so they could cause an upset or two in this group. Winning six from six in qualifying against Guinea Bissau, Guinea and Sudan, before defeating DR Congo in the play-off doesn’t tell us much. But they should not be taken lightly.

An open and intriguing section is completed by Canada. They have a player widely regarded as one of the best full backs in the world in the form of Alphonso Davies. Plus one of the hottest striking properties plying their trade in the top European leagues in Jonathan David. There is plenty of talent around them to enable Les Rouges to get some points on the board.

Group F Winner Best Bet

As alluded to above, Group F is more open than possibly meets the eye. Which means taking Belgium on is an attractive proposition. Romelu Lukaku has had injury and form concerns. Backup options of Batshuayi, Origi and Benteke don’t inspire confidence. Neither does a backline consisting the ageing duo of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

Instead, I am taking a Modrić-inspired Croatia to navigate their way through to the last 16 by topping the group. Alongside Kovačić and Brozović the Croats have one of the best midfields in Qatar in front of a formidable defensive line. Take the chances that will be created by that trio and the likes of Perišić and Zlatko Dalić should be able to lead Croatia deep into the tournament once again.

  • Selection: Croatia to win Group F
  • Best Odds: 3.25 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 4/10

Group G Preview

Group G houses the tournament favourites Brazil. The Seleção finished first in CONMEBOL qualifying, cruising through undefeated in 17 matches. But not too many of their starting line-up are household names.

Switzerland have been expected to perform well in recent tournaments. Ranking as high as fourth in the world in 2017. They too sailed through qualification unbeaten, topping their group ahead of European Champions Italy. That led to the Azzurri failing to make this tournament.

Serbia possibly gained the most dramatic qualification of all teams in Qatar. Beating Portugal in Lisbon with a 90th-minute header by substitute Aleksandar Mitrovic. Expect fireworks from a side coached by the attack-minded Dragan Stojković. Lazio’s Milinković-Savić pulls the strings alongside Tadić of Ajax. Behind a dynamic duo of Mitrović and Juventus star Dušan Vlahović making anything possible.

The outsiders of the group are Cameroon with a familiar name in charge in Rigobert Song. The Indomitable Lions also have the winner of the Golden Boot at AFCON within their ranks. Captain Vincent Aboubakar has enough about him to cause defences headaches whilst there is a decent sprinkling of talent through the remainder of the side. Inter Milan’s André Onana will be tasked with keeping the goals out at the other end. In midfield, Zambo Anguissa will aim to replicate his excellent club form with Napoli.

Group G Winner Best Bet

It can only be Brazil can’t it? Arguably the toughest task for coach Tite is cutting the array of talent in every position at his disposal down to a 26-man squad. The Seleção breezed through qualification for Qatar. Winning 14 of their 17 matches scoring 40 goals whilst only conceding five. The number 1 ranked side are favourites to win the whole thing with good reason. So it goes without saying the expectation is to start by topping Group G.

  • Selection: Brazil to win Group G
  • Best Odds: 1.36 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Odds as at 13:00 on November 17th 2022. Odds may now differ.
