Argentina vs Mexico Bet Builder Tips: Saturday, November 26th

We’ve got Argentina vs Mexico bet builder tips for the fiery South American clash.

La Albiceleste will be hoping to bounce back after Saudi Arabia pulled off one of the all-time great World Cup shocks coming from behind to beat them in their opening game. Ranked 48 places below their South American opponents and as long as 33/1 to best them, the odds were well and truly stacked against Hervé Renard’s side.

Argentina vs Mexico Preview

World Cup Group C, Saturday, November 26, 19:00 (UK)

Argentina were hugely unfortunate not to have been out of sight against Saudi Arabia. If Lautaro Martinez and Lionel Messi could time their runs better it would have been a routine win.

Lautaro Martinez looked a tasty price to secure the Golden Boot pre-tournament at 33/1, though he would have to usurp compatriot Lionel Messi to secure the accolade. He will have to learn how to time his runs though as he had the ball in the net twice against Saudi Arabia only to be denied by the flag.

Messi’s last dance got off to the perfect start as he slotted home from the spot ten minutes into their opening game and, like his strike partner, could have doubled his tally but for a poorly timed run.

Ahead of this fixture, Lisandro Martinez, Gonzalo Montiel and Alexis Mac Allister are all in contention for starts.

As for Mexico, with the Saudis still to play, I think they will be happy to build on their draw against Poland with another result here.

So, expect to see Gerardo Martino look to frustrate Argentina, though it is worth noting they have lost their last three against them, conceding eight goals without scoring.

Argentina vs Mexico Stats & Facts

  • The last time Argentina lost their opening WC game, they went on to reach the final in 1990.

With Daniele Orsato in charge of this clash, it would just be plain stupid not to dip into the player card markets here. The Italian whistleblower brandished six cards in the opening game and has averaged 4.84 in 19 games this season.

Mexico midfielder Edson Álvarez looks a prime candidate for a booking. He has nine cards in 29 appearances for club and country this campaign, and has picked up 14 during his international career giving him a cards per 90 average of 0.27.

Anchoring the Mexican midfield, he’ll be tasked with containing the abundance of Argentine attacking talent, Messi, Angel Di Maria, Martinez and co.

In their opening game, Saudi Arabia’s CDM was also booked, committing five fouls. You can combine an Álvarez card with an Angel Di Maria goal at 14.30 with bet365’s bet builder which looks tasty.

Di Maria’s price anytime looks long at 5.50 considering he has averaged 0.28 goals per 90 internationally, in a career spanning 94 caps.

The attacker has endured a turbulent couple of years at club level but internationally he has had a direct hand in seven goals in 16 appearances in 2022.

An obvious concern with this Angel angle is the man in between El Tri’s sticks, World Cup phenomenon Guillermo Ochoa. Mexico’s keeper won man of the match in their opening game foiling Robert Lewandowski from the spot. That being said, Di Maria’s price is too chunky to exclude.

  • Edson Álvarez Card
  • Angel Di Maria Anytime Goalscorer
