I have pored over the stats to bring you my Arsenal v Liverpool bet builder tips. As The Emirates plays host to arguably the marquee fixture in the English Premier League this weekend.
In this article:
Sunday, October 9th, 16:30 (UK)
Last weekend Arsenal were tasked with proving they were genuine top 4 contenders at least. They duly obliged with a 3-1 victory over arch-rivals and previously undefeated Spurs in the North London Derby. The convincing win kept the Gunners top of the Premier League table. Now they have what many consider to be an even sterner test. The watching world will be keen to see if Mikel Arteta’s men can put on a performance and result good enough to be considered title contenders.
Arsenal have won seven of their eight league games so far this season. Firing in 20 goals in the process, second only to Manchester City. At home, it’s four wins from four with their total of 85 shots taken the highest in the English top flight.
Liverpool were once again expected to be Manchester City’s only rivals for the title. But their start to the season has been far from straightforward. Although a convincing win over Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday a timely boost to their confidence. The Reds have been shaky at the back highlighted perfectly in their last league outing. Shipping two goals in the opening 17 minutes in being held to a 3-3 draw by Brighton at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp has seen his side keep just two clean sheets in their last 11 EPL matches. Alarmingly they’ve conceded first in nine of those matches. Napoli also scored four when ripping the Merseysiders’ defence to shreds in an emphatic UCL opener.
Arsenal have won their last seven Premier League home games. It is their longest run at the Emirates since a run of 10 in 2018-19 under Unai Emery. This will surely give the Gunners the confidence to end a wretched run against Liverpool. At least preventing that record-breaking fifth defeat in a row.
Although having a Thursday night Europa League appointment to take care of Mikel Arteta heavily rotated his starting lineup. A professional 3-0 victory over Bodø/Glimt saw them also claim top spot in their group. Only three players (Gabriel, Xhaka, Martinelli) lined up versus both Spurs and the Norwegians. Expect all three to start here too.
With their exceptional start to the season and sparkling home form, I am taking a Double Chance on Arsenal to form the foundation for this bet builder. Meaning a home win or draw lands leg one. Liverpool are also yet to win away from home in the league this term. Drawing twice and losing once in their three games.
This game looks like having plenty of goals. Arsenal are on a run of 13 consecutive Premier League matches without a clean sheet against Liverpool. Conceding 39 goals in those games. Both teams have scored in all four domestic games at the Emirates so far this campaign. Fans have seen a total of 16 goals across those matches. An average of exactly four per game. The Gunners scored at least two goals in seven of their eight fixtures so far. Adding over two goals here is a safe way of getting this bet builder at odds against.
Finally, it’s a player market to conclude this 3.40 pick. When I say my focus is on Granit Xhaka that usually means looking at cards. Not this time. The Swiss international has two goals and three assists in eight Premier League games this season. Now in his seventh season with the Gunners, the 30-year-old has only once scored more goals than that over an entire season. His redemption and reinvention a compelling sub-plot to this exciting start to the season for the North London giants.
Xhaka has always been seen as a deep-lying, ball-winning midfielder. With Thomas Partey taking on that role and Arteta favouring inverted full-backs he has been able to operate far more advanced. This has seen him fire off 13 shots across his 10 club appearances in both competitions. Only failing to take at least one in three games. Trying his luck in each of his last five outings. Three attempts at goal against both Tottenham and Manchester United highlight the new adventure in his game. I am certainly taking him to add to his tally here.
