Before the Premier League heads into another international break, there is a huge clash between last season’s title rivals as Arsenal vs Man City takes place at the Emirates Stadium. Kick-off is at 16:30 for this one, with Matt Kirby acting as our man overseeing proceedings.
City slipped to their first league defeat last weekend at Wolves and will look to bounce back. Arsenal? They’re sitting just a point behind Pep Guardiola’s men, along with their north London rivals Spurs. But the Gunners tasted their first defeat in the Champions League at Lens on Tuesday.
Bet Builder odds: 6.11
England, Premier League, October 8th, 16:30 (UK)
Odds via bet365 as at 11:20, October 4th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
We’ll start the Bet Builder with both teams to score. Neither side has looked defensively solid in the first few weeks of the season.
Man City have conceded in six of their last seven games in all comps, including at winless Sheffield United, Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, while they fell behind on the road at West Ham.
All four of Arsenal’s Premier League games have seen this outcome, with each seeing over 2.5 goals as well.
Even if Bukayo Saka misses out, the Gunners have firepower with Gabriel Jesus now fully fit and skipper Martin Odegaard, while summer signing Kai Havertz is now off the mark after his goal at Bournemouth.
The last three league meetings have seen goals at both ends, with Man City running out 3-1 & 4-1 winners last season. Plus, their clash in the curtain-raising Community Shield ended 1-1.
If you read The Cards Column, you know I love a card. And with little between them so early in the season, as Arsenal look to lay down their marker, then that should see some cautions.
Three of Arsenal’s four home league games have seen two cards to each team, including the north London derby that saw a 3-4 card split. In comparison, Fulham came here and picked up seven cards in total.
Man City have been picking up their fair share of cards lately. Their last four league games have seen both teams collect 2+ cards, with Pep Guardiola seeing Rodri sent off at home to Nottingham Forest, while last weekend’s defeat at Wolves saw the Sky Blues pick up four yellows.
It’s worth pointing out that Man City’s four opponents in the Premier League last month picked up 19 cautions, which hints at cards in this one, even with Michael Oliver in charge – he’s taken charge of both sides this season.
In Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest, Oliver showed two cards each, while in City vs Fulham, he dished out four cards with a 2-4 split to Fulham. So, everything stacks up for cards.
The third and final leg of this 6.11 Bet Builder is over nine corners. We’ve got two attacking sides who will go hammer and tongs for three points, which means chances, saves and, ultimately, corners.
Mikel Arteta’s side top the table when it comes to flag kicks, averaging 9.1 per 90, while Man City rank third at 6.7, which is the ideal start on that evidence.
When you look at Arsenal’s home games, they average 13 corners, with matches at the Emirates having already seen 11, 10, 15 & 15. When you compare that to Man City, whose away matches average 11.3 per 90, show we should see the ball in all four corners.
There’ll be plenty of width on offer from both sides, and they both rank in the top five for shots on target in the top flight, so the keepers are likely to be kept busy – hopefully tipping it around their posts!
