With another episode of Friday night football on the horizon, it means our Aston Villa vs Southampton bet builder tips are not all that far away either. Tips that will focus on whether the hosts can build on their draw with Manchester City a fortnight ago.
While they will also focus on the Saints and with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men having lost to Wolves in their last league outing, they will hope to return to winning ways at the weekend.
In this article:
Friday, September 16th, 20:00 (UK)
After an enforced hiatus last weekend, the Premier League returns with a slightly curtailed schedule over the next few days. With seven matches taking place before the international break, one of those is at Villa Park.
While Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard will still hope he is in charge by the time the English top tier returns in October. Something that is not necessarily a guarantee when you look at the way his side has played this season.
Yes, they did well to hold Manchester City to a draw in their last home outing, but there is also a sense that it has only bought the former Liverpool midfielder time. This time is expiring before our eyes.
While it is time that may disappear if Southampton get their way. Although their own start to the campaign has offered little to write home about, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are not necessarily a team in crisis.
A status that never really gets afforded to the Saints and just when you think they are teetering on the brink, they have a habit of picking up the results that are required. A requirement that keeps Hasenhuttl from being shown out of the exit door.
Then again, a second successive league defeat for Southampton will be far from helpful and should this be the case, it may tilt the pendulum of managerial pressure back towards the jovial Austrian.
Going into Friday’s clash at Villa Park, it is not quite a must-win game for Steven Gerrard. Then again, it can certainly be considered as a do not lose encounter at the same time. Thankfully though for Aston Villa, I think they will be good for at least a point.
Because although the West Midlands outfit are not blazing a trail in the Premier League this season, Southampton do not quite have the necessary edge to take full advantage. This is why I have opted for a Villa pick in the double chance market.
With that said, I do think that both sides will manage to score a goal and for those who like making good use of the correct score market, you can also back the 1-1 draw at the inviting price of 7.50.
While Philippe Coutinho usually needs no invite when it comes to tormenting Southampton and with a solid record against the Saints, I have also backed the Brazilian to net anytime on Friday.
Although for those who are of more a Southampton persuasion, backing Che Adams in the same market may also be a worthwhile suggestion. Especially as he recently bagged a brace away at Leicester.
However, for the purposes of my bet builder, I am plumping for Coutinho to score one of no more than a maximum of four total goals and when you put all the components together, odds of 13.00 are on the table before kickoff.
Bet Builder odds: 13.00
