After a short hiatus for the international break, our expert Matthew O’Regan returns with his expert tips for what is set to be a fascinating game in Aston Villa vs West Ham.

Premier League football is back. Both sides here qualified for European competitions this season, with Aston Villa’s 7th place finish enough to secure Europa Conference League football, while West Ham’s triumph in that competition saw them qualify for the Europa League.

Aston Villa vs West Ham Expert Football Betting Tips: Cash In On Cash Shots

Odds via bet365 as at 00:00, October 19th 2023 Odds may now differ.

Bettingexpert’s Value Bet Tip: Matty Cash 2+ Shots

England, Premier Division, Sunday 22nd October 14:00 (UK)

Aston Villa have started this season as they ended last—in fine fettle. Unai Emery’s side have impressed neutrals with their high line and intense pressing, making them an enjoyable team to watch. Emery likes his teams to attack, and this has been evident with the Villains scoring 19 goals, the second-highest total in the league behind Brighton.

While Ollie Watkins is on four goals already, the whole team chipped in with attacks—even the fullbacks. Matty Cash is a converted right-back from midfield, and this is evident with his attacking prowess. The 26-year-old Polish international has hit 2, 0, 6, 1, 2, 3, 0, and 2 shots in the league so far. He also scored a brace against Burnley. Cash has hit 2+ shots in five out of eight games (62.5%). His odds of 3.40 give an implied probability of 29.4%, so we are getting real value at this price.

An added caveat to this bet is his potential new role in the side. In the 1-1 draw away at Wolves, Erzi Konsa played at right back, meaning Cash was pushed further forward, allowing him to have two shots and a shot on target.

In a game I expect Aston Villa to be in control of and have the majority of chances, Cash’s price of 3.40 for two shots—a line he has hit 5/8 league starts—is a slice of value.

  • Bettingexpert’s Value Bet: Matty Cash 2+ Shots (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 3.40
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Bettingexpert’s Alternative Expert Bet Tip: Pro-Aston Villa Bet Builder

Aston Villa have played three games in front of their own fans in the league this season, winning all three. In this process, Emery’s side have scored 13 goals and conceded just two. A 4-0 win over Everton kickstarted their season before beating Crystal Palace 3-1 and demolishing high-flying Brighton 6-1. Their home form in Europe is also promising, defeating Hibernian 3-0 and Zrinjski Mostar 1-0.

West Ham have picked up seven points from four away games, beating Luton and Brighton on their travels, drawing at Bournemouth, and losing to Liverpool. Last season, David Moyes’ side struggled on the road, picking up just 12 points from their 19 away games.

They’ve also conceded 15, 21, 17, 18, and 19 throws on the road, as well as 22 at home to FK Backa Topola and Sheffield United.
Aston Villa have taken 15, 23, 25, 22, and 25 throw-ins at home this season. They’ve also hit more than 20 throw-ins in their last two home games against West Ham.

Villa Park should be fully packed and loud, creating a hostile atmosphere for West Ham. If this is the case, Aston Villa should rack up the throw-ins as West Ham sit back and soak up the pressure. With pacey wingers such as Moussa Diaby on display, Villa may target the wings, especially given Vladimir Coufal and Emerson’s lack of pace.

  • Bettingexpert’s Value Bet: Aston Villa Win, Over 20.5 Throw-Ins for Aston Villa and Cash 2+ Shots
  • Best Odds: 19.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 1/10

Aston Villa vs West Ham Team News: Absentees at for Aston Villa

Aston Villa are still without Alex Moreno, Emi Buendia, Jacob Ramsey, and Tyrone Mings due to injury. Off-the-field controversy means Nicolo Zaniolo is likely to be absent, whereas Emiliano Martinez should be ready to play after arriving back from international duty with Argentina, where he kept two clean sheets.

West Ham have quite a full squad to pick from, with only Aaron Creswell and Ben Johnson absent through injury. Edson Alvarez will be touch and go after arriving in the UK late after international duty with Mexico.

Aston Villa vs West Ham Powered by OPTA Stats: Villa Park A Recent Happy Hammers Hunting Ground

  • Aston Villa have lost their last three Premier League home games against West Ham, as many as they had in their first 21 against them (W9 D9).
Although they lost their last away league game 3-1 at Liverpool, West Ham have won two of their last three such matches, as many as their previous 18 on the road beforehand (D4 L12).
  • West Ham have both scored and conceded in nine of their last 10 Premier League games, with the exception being a 2-0 win over Sheffield United in September. The Hammers have scored first in seven of their eight Premier League matches this season, the most of any side.
  • Aston Villa pair Moussa Diaby and Ollie Watkins have created 14 chances for one another in the Premier League this season (7 each), at least four more than any other duo for any side in 2023-24.
  • Aston Villa have 16 points from their eight Premier League games this season, their highest tally at this stage in the competition since 2009-10 (also 16). A win here would represent their best points total from their opening nine matches of a top-flight campaign since 1998-99 (21).
  • West Ham boss David Moyes is unbeaten in his last 14 Premier League games against Aston Villa (W8 D6) since a 0-1 defeat with Everton in August 2010. Only against Sunderland (15 from August 2002 to November 2012) has the Scot ever had a longer unbeaten run against a side in the competition.
