It’s the Bundesliga next up at bettingexpert, with out expert, Nathan Joyes, delivering a Augsburg vs RB Leipzig prediction, team news and lineups preview for us to get stuck into.
With RB Leipzig shrugging off three successive losses at the weekend to Union Berlin, could they now gazump an Augsburg outfit showcasing fairly decent form on home soil?
In this article:
Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, February 10th, 14:30 (UK)
As we approach gameweek 21 in the Bundesliga, we’re just about over the hill at the midpoint of the season. RB Leipzig are looking to keep up with Dortmund for a Champions League spot, while Augsburg appear too good for relegation but aren’t quite ready to take that next step and fight for a European spot.
However, I believe they have been underestimated in the market when the unpopular German energy drink side rocks up at the WWK Arena.
Generally speaking, Augsburg’s home form has been above average. Although they rank 13th best in the league, they’ve already faced Bayern, Leverkusen , Dortmund, and Frankfurt in front of their own fans. With slightly easier fixtures on paper to follow, they should be climbing up that particular table come the end of the season.
Until both Leverkusen and Bayern came to town, Jess Thorup’s team had gone six matches unbeaten, which included 13 goals, a win against Frankfurt and a hard-earned point against Dortmund.
Although Leverkusen dominated Augsburg, the league leaders had to rely on Exequiel Palacios’ 94th-minute winner to claim all three points.
Bayern also had a hard time, coming away with a narrow 3-2 victory – where Augsburg had a goal chalked off as well as missing a penalty.
Leipzig, on the other hand, has only won one of their last five on their travels in the Bundesliga. Although that victory was at Dortmund, it’s important to point out Mats Hummels was sent off inside 15 minutes, and the hosts still managed to score two.
Losing 5-2 in the match before last against Stuttgart won’t have filled Marco Rose’s side with much hope, who haven’t kept a clean sheet since round five on the road vs Monchengladbach.
All things considered, Augsburg look to be the value pick to not lose on home soil.
Augsburg vs RB Leipzig Prediction odds via bet365 as at 08:00, February 5th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
RB Leipzig bounced back from three consecutive defeats against Union Berlin on the weekend. Xavi Simons returned from a calf injury in front of home support and played the full 90 versus Union, taking five shots at goal but leaving the field without registering a goal or assist. The significant RB Leipzig team news sees Mohamed Simikan, who missed the weekend’s fixture after serving a one-match suspension, back in contention to slot back into the side against Augsburg.
The hosts will be without Reece Oxford and Raphael Framberger, two players touted to view large chunks of this season from the sidelines. Mads Pedersen, who was touch and go for the previous match, came on in the 82nd minute against Bochum and will be in line for a starting berth here.
Augsburg possible starting lineup:
Dahmne; Mbabu, Gouweleeuw, Uduokhai, Pedersen; Jakic, Rexhbecaj; Jensen, Demirovic, Vargas; Tietz
RB Leipzig possible starting lineup:
Gulacsi; Simikan, Orban, Klostermann, Raum; Baumgartner, Seiwald, Schlager, Simons; Openda, Poulsen
