Brentford vs Liverpool Tip 1: Busy Bee’s

England, Premier League, Saturday, February 17h, 12:30 (UK)

After a sluggish start, Liverpool kicked on to beat Burnley 3-1 last weekend.

It maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Premier League with the chasing pack, Arsenal and Manchester City, winning as well.

It means Jurgen Klopp’s side has only lost one of their last 13 games in all competitions, albeit that defeat did come against title rival Arsenal. Over that period, the Reds have booked their spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals and League Cup final, keeping hopes of a quadruple alive in Jurgen Klopp’s swansong season.

Liverpool may have the second-best defensive record in the division (23GA), but their backline has looked vulnerable recently. Burnley became the fifth side to find the net against the Reds in as many games, alongside Chelsea, Arsenal, Fulham and Norwich, who scored twice at Anfield in the FA Cup.

At 1.83, backing over 2.5 goals and both teams to score appeals here.

Brentford have netted in each of their last nine, with this bet clicking on seven occasions.

  • Brentford vs Liverpool Tip 1: Over 2.5 & BTTS (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: Boylesports
  • Stake: 10/10

Brentford vs Liverpool Tip 2: Bee’s Bagsman

Since his return, Ivan Toney has scored three goals in four appearances, only failing to find the net during the visit of Man City.

In those four games, the frontman has had ten shots, wasting little time in reacquainting himself with the Premier League.

Those three goals have taken Toney’s top-flight tally to 35 in 70 starts; in the most literal sense, that is a goal every other game, but his goals per 90 average is 0.45.

Whichever way you look at it, the 3.00 available about him scoring anytime against Liverpool looks too large.

He is yet to break his duck against Klopp’s men, but with Brentford as short as 1.36 to score, it makes sense to back Toney to bag.

  • Brentford vs Liverpool Tip 2: Ivan Toney Anytime Goalscorer (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 3.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

Brentford vs Liverpool Tip 3: Buzz off

The division’s rustler-in-chief is in insatiable form at the minute, both in front of goal and on the wind-up.

Neal Maupay has found the net three times in his last four appearances, picking up bookings in half of those games and at 5.50, it is his price to be shown a card on Saturday afternoon that interests me.

The Frenchman has as many goals as he does cards (5) this term, but it is who the cards come against that is of particular interest.

Maupay was cautioned against Man City, Spurs, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Manchester United which is four of the ‘big six’ and the side currently in fifth.

He is obviously a player who has to play on the edge and struggles to keep himself in check for the big games. The visit of the leaders Liverpool certainly falls into the big game category.

  • Brentford vs Liverpool Tip 3: Neal Maupay Card (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 5.50
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

Brentford vs Liverpool Team News and Possible Lineups: No Mo Salah?

Frank Onyeka is back available for the hosts after reaching the final of the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria. He may have to settle for a spot on the bench with Vitaly Janelt, Mathias Jensen and Christian Norgaard expected to start in midfield.

Toney and Maupay look set to continue in attack. The partnership has had a hand in six of their side’s last eight goals.

Liverpool received a boost this week as Mohammed Salah returned to training. The Egyptian international missed the back end of his nation’s AFCON campaign with a hamstring injury. This weekend’s trip to London may come too soon for Salah to start, though.

Brentford possible starting lineup:

Flekken; Collins, Pinnock, Mee; Roeslev, Jensen, Norgaard, Janelt, Reguilon; Maupay, Toney

Liverpool possible starting lineup:

Becker; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Djik, Robertson; Elliot, Mac Allister, Jones; Jota, Nunez, Diaz

Match OPTA Stats: 53 Nights on top of the tree

  • As of the night before this game (February 16th), Liverpool will have spent every night since Boxing Day on top of the Premier League (53 nights in a row); that’s exactly as many nights as they’d spent top of the table from the start of the 2020-21 campaign up to Christmas 2023.
  • Brentford’s Neal Maupay has been directly involved in exactly one goal in each of his six home Premier League starts for Brentford (4 goals, 2 assists). In Premier League history, only two players have scored or assisted in their first seven home starts for a club: Alan Shearer for Newcastle (first 15, 1996-97) and Álvaro Negredo for Man City (first 7, 2013).
  • Liverpool’s Diogo Jota has scored nine Premier League goals this season, and is looking to hit double figures in a single campaign for just a second time in the competition (15 in 2021-22). The Portuguese forward has scored five goals in his last six league matches, and scored in his only previous appearance at the Brentford Community Stadium in the top-flight (September 2021).
  • Brentford have lost four of their last six home Premier League matches, as many as they had in their previous 30 such home games combined (W15 D11 L4).
