The future of Harry Maguire along with the captaincy of Manchester United has been a topic of debate for much of last season and into this preseason. It was recently announced that Harry Maguire would no longer be the captain of United and he was quite honest about his disappointment about that.

Silvestre claims the main reason behind Maguire losing the captaincy was due to the fact he lost his starting place to Argentinian World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez.

However, Fernandes is now the new club captain as ten Hag looks to shape his new dawn at the club ahead of the Premier League season. Silvestre has also noticed some of Fernandes’ tendencies to annoy his teammates but claims as long as United have a happy camp, that’s all that matters.

“Erik ten Hag has sent a message now showing the standards that you need to have to be captain. I expected it to happen. 

“With picking Bruno Fernandes as the new captain, you have pros and cons. Sometimes Bruno is overreacting a bit which brings frustrations for his teammates.”

“But as long as the dressing room believes that he is the right captain, that should be the main focus.”
