Burnley vs Sunderland Bet Builder Tips: 6.50 Builder for Friday Night Clash

Burnley vs Sunderland Bet Builder Tips: Friday, March 31st

The Championship returns after the international break and we’ve got Burnley vs Sunderland bet builder tips as the season enters the home straight. For some time now it has been a matter of when and not if Burnley secure a return to the Premier League and then claim the title. As for Sunderland, their play-off hopes are all but over. However, a win here could keep that dream alive for another week at least with some favourable games ahead.

Burnley vs Sunderland Preview

England, Championship, Friday, March 31st 20:00 (UK)

It’s not often we’ve previewed a Burnley match this season after they’ve suffered a defeat. That is the case here following a 6-0 thumping at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final tie prior to the international break. Although the strength of Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup was a clear illustration of the respect in which he holds both Vincent Komapny and his side. The Clarets need three more wins to secure Manchester City as a league fixture again next season. They head into this match with a 13-point advantage to a faltering Sheffield United in 2nd.

With a further three-point cushion and a game in hand over 3rd placed Middlesbrough. Their dominance over the Championship is evidenced by an unbeaten run of 17 league games. Winning 12 of the last 13 at Turf Moor.

Having suffered the loss of key players throughout the campaign it is no surprise to see Sunderland starting to run out of steam. They were well in the play-off hunt until talismanic top scorer Ross Stewart was ruled out for the remainder of the season after picking up an Achilles tendon injury at the end of January.

On the face of it, a run of two defeats in the last 11 league away games gives them hope heading to the champions-elect. However, the recent form of four defeats in the last six paints perhaps a more realistic picture. Still, only seven points adrift of 6th placed Millwall Tony Mowbray knows time is running out and his side can’t afford to drop too many points regardless of opponent.

I just have to side with Burnley here. It’s impossible to look past an outfit that have won 14 of their last 16 at home in the league. Accumulating 30 points more than the visitors this campaign from one fewer game. They arguably should be heavier favourites than they already are.

I am using bet365 for my Bet Builder selection. The Early Payout offer is an excellent feature to utilise. If the Clarets take a two-goal lead, that leg of the builder will be ticked off as a winner regardless of the final score. Ironically, if you had backed Sunderland to beat Burnley in the reverse fixture that would have won by half time thanks to the Early Payout. Despite Vincent Kompany’s men coming back to win with four unanswered second-half goals.

Nathan Tella was the catalyst for the revival that day heading home shortly after the break. Since then the on-loan Southampton man has fired 11 more goals in 20 league games including five in his last two. He goes into this weekend as the Championship’s third-highest scorer with 17 goals. Although it wouldn’t surprise me to see the 23-year-old hit the back of the net again, I am using one of his prop lines to boost the odds of this bet builder. I expect a player in great form and full of confidence to fire off plenty of shots.

Sunderland have conceded the 6th highest total of shots in the league this campaign at an average of 12.3 per game. An average which rises to 13.1 when on the road. The bet365 Bet Builder allows you total control and flexibility over what you want to back in the prop markets. Tella’s shots on target can be set to over 0.5, 1.5 or 2.5 with increasing odds the higher you go. I am adding over 1.5, a line he has achieved in each of his last three league outings. His tally can be easily tracked on the Player Stats tab in the in-play menu of the game once it kicks off.

Finally, I can’t get away from the fact the Black Cats have scored in each of their last 19 Championship fixtures and in all of their last 11 away from home. Only Burnley and Middlesbrough have scored more on their travels this season. Mowbray’s side only failed to hit the back of the net twice. For their part, Burnley are comfortably the most prolific side in the second tier on home soil. Netting 43 times so far with no visiting keeper to Turf Moor leaving with a clean sheet to his name. Adding both teams to score here looks a nice value play and boosts the odds to a very attractive 6.50.

  • Match Result will be Burnley
  • Nathan Tella over 1.5 shots on target in the match
  • Both Teams to Score in the Match – Yes

Bet Builder odds: 6.50

Odds via bet365 as at 11:00 March 30th 2023. Odds may now differ.
