We have a full midweek round of games in the Championship. Following on from the full house of successful tips on Friday. I have once again chosen three players to watch and selected a best bet for each.
In this article:
England, Championship, Tuesday, August 30th, 19:45 (UK)
QPR sprung a massive surprise at the weekend. Mick Beale’s men became the first side to beat Watford this season. Having twice taken the lead and been pegged back. The R’s finally came out on top in a five-goal thriller. Attack could well be the best form of defence for the home side. They have conceded before half-time in each of their six league games this season. Having kept just one clean sheet in their last 11 games at Loftus Road.
The visitors were also the winners by the odd goal in five at the weekend. As a result, they come to London riding high in 3rd place. Just a point off the shock early pace setters, Reading. The Tigers’ form is also based on their strong attack. Shota Arveladze’s men have scored in six of their seven matches. But no side in the league has conceded more than their 10 goals. Keeping just one clean sheet so far.
In what promises to be an open contest full of goals. I was shocked to see the Championship’s top marksman at odds of 4.00 to add to his tally. Óscar Estupiñán bagged his first career hat trick at the weekend. He has now plundered seven goals in his last three games. Having only had 13 shots in total it shows how ruthless the Colombian is. Any chances inside the Rangers area expect Estupiñán to take advantage.

It was no surprise to see Bristol City involved in another entertaining game on Saturday. Nakhi Wells hitting the bar in the opening minute. Blackpool denied the Robins all three points with a 90th minute equaliser. That was the sixth goal of a pulsating contest.
Nigel Pearson would have been delighted to be able to call upon Antoine Semenyo again. The 22-Year-Old Forward made his comeback in the EFL Cup in midweek. That 20-minute cameo was followed by 30 minutes at Bloomfield Road. He scored in both games. However, it is his assists that caught the eye last season. Totalling 12 in his 31 league appearances.
Chelsea loanee Tino Anjorin bagged both Huddersfield goals at the weekend. He will be a big miss if unable to recover from the injury he picked up against the Baggies. The jury is still out on new boss Danny Schofield. The Terriers are just one off the bottom and have lost both away games to date.
Despite the established Championship performers around him it is Tommy Conway that has really caught my eye. The 20-year-old rifled into the roof of the net from six yards at the weekend. That was his fifth goal in his last six appearances. Having the creativity of Semenyo back in the team can only help him extend that sequence.

The big news ahead of this fixture is of course the new manager appointment at Stoke. Having watched from the stands on Saturday he should make his dugout debut here. Dean Holden deployed a back four at Blackburn. Resulting in a first away win and second clean sheet of the season. It will be interesting to see if the new boss keeps things the same.
Pre-season promotion hopefuls Swansea continue on a wretched run. Winning just one of their last 11 Championship games. Having Ben Cabango suspended for this following his weekend red card will not help. No team has had more of the ball away from home than the Swans. They need to start doing more with it to get out of the relegation zone or Russell Martin’s job will be at high risk. Martin was Neil’s captain at Norwich when he became manager in 2015. A run of 17 wins in his first 25 games leading the Canaries to play-off final glory. The Potters will be looking for a similar elongated new manager bounce in this current season.
Neil has inherited Lewis Baker as his new captain. He would have liked what he saw from the former Chelsea man at the weekend. First drawing an excellent save from Thomas Kaminski from a direct free-kick. Then drove towards the edge of the box before unleashing a dipping strike into the bottom corner. An effort which turned out to be the match winner.
The 27-year-old’s odds are shortening by the game. No surprise following his eight goals from 34 shots, 12 on target last season. With two goals coming from 16 shots, 6 on target already this term. But odds of 5.00 to score at any time still represents value in my opinion.
