Championship Best Bets: Saturday August 6th

We’re back with more Championship best bets this Saturday. While many eyes will be focussed on the Premier League, it’s matchday 2 in the Championship and there are plenty of interesting matches. We’ve got value picks for three games that will affect things at both ends of the table.

In this article:

Norwich vs Wigan Preview

England, Championship, Saturday, August 6th, 12.30 (UK)

Norwich suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Cardiff last weekend. The Canaries will be keen to get points on the board as they take on Wigan in front of their home fans.
There is a lot of expectation surrounding Norwich this season. They were relegated in last place from the Premier League, but Dean Smith remains an extremely highly rated manager. The club has a reputation of being a yoyo club in recent years, being relegated before bouncing back to the top flight immediately.

Wigan were promoted from League One last season, and they secured a point on their return to the second tier. However, they will know they will need to improve to get anything here against a Norwich side that will be wounded after their opening weekend defeat.

The Canaries averaged 2.5 goals per game in their last 10 home matches of their last season in the Championship, and I’m expecting them to put on a show here. Wigan are capable of staying up, but beating promotion-chasing Norwich this early in the season should be a step too far.

Norwich vs Wigan Best Bet

I fancy Norwich to win here. They had a formidable record in their last season in the Championship, and Dean Smith will be on top of his players to ensure he gets a response out of them. Using the bet365 bet builder, we can get odds of 2.05 for Norwich to win and score more than one goal in the match.

  • Selection: Norwich To Win & To Score Over 1 Goal
  • Best Odds: 2.05 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Swansea vs Blackburn Preview

England, Championship, Saturday, August 6th, 15:00 (UK)

Swansea were bitterly disappointing last season as they wound up finishing in 15th place, but significant improvements are expected this season. Russel Martin remains at the club as he continues to try and impose his brand of passing football on the side who were renowned for being entertainers in their early seasons in the Premier League.

The Swans dominated possession last week, with 74% of the ball, but they failed to make it count and created very few significant chances all game. This is something that will have to change this season, and they will be looking to remedy that problem in their first match at home.

Both teams have scored have scored in seven of Swansea’s last eight matches dating back to last season. Over that period there has been an average of 3.75 goals per game in their matches.

Blackburn beat QPR 1-0 in their opening fixture at home, so hopefully they carry some confidence into their trip to Wales. Blackburn scored nine goals in their final five league matches played away from home last season, and they should carry a threat here despite the change in manager,

Swansea vs Blackburn Best Bet

In the last 10 meetings between these sides, both teams have scored on seven occasions. There has also been an average of 2.90 goals per game over that period. We can get odds of 1.92 with Unibet for both teams to find the net here, and I feel it represents value given Swansea’s home advantage and Blackburn’s attacking threat in their opening fixture.

  • Selection: Yes on Both Teams To Score
  • Best Odds: 1.92 (Unibet)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Burnley vs Luton Preview

England, Championship, Saturday, August 6th, 15:00 (UK)

Finally, we look t another team that was relegated from the Premier League last season. Burnley attempted to stave off relegation by sacking hugely popular manager, Sean Dyche in the dying weeks of the season, but to no avail. Vincent Kompany is now in charge, and many expect them to win promotion this season.

Kompany’s men kicked off their campaign with a solid away victory over Huddersfield on Friday night, and they are a decent price to secure another win this weekend.

Luton overperformed last season by reaching the playoffs, and I’m not sure they’ve got what it takes to maintain such a high level this season. They drew 0-0 at home to Birmingham on the opening day, and they will need to show significant improvements if they are to upset Burnley here.

The Clarets dominated Huddersfield in their opener. Burnley scored fairly early on and the home side failed to register a single shot on target in response. I expect a similar level of control here from a team most consider title contenders.

Burnley vs Luton Best Bet

Burnley to win is priced at a very appealing 1.83 with Unibet. Turf Moor was considered a difficult place to visit by most in the Premier League, so it should be a fortress in the Championship. They really should have too much for Luton here.

  • Best Odds: 1.83 (Unibet)
  • Stakes: 8/10
