We are back with more Championship best bets ahead of this weekend’s action. Just three midweek fixtures but with implications at both ends of the table. Sheffield United used their game in hand wisely. A 1-0 win at Reading opened up a seven-point gap to Middlesbrough in 3rd.

West Brom edged past a spirited Wigan side to close the gap to the Championship play-offs places to four points. Huddersfield’s goalless draw with Bristol City was enough to lift them off the foot of the table on goal difference.

Three games go under the microscope, with a best bet in each.

Preston’s goalless stalemate with Watford was their third in four games and a league-high ninth of the campaign. No side has scored fewer goals at home than the Lillywhites 12.

For their part, Cardiff are the Championship’s lowest scorers. The Bluebirds have managed just 27 goals in 35 games. With only 12 coming when on their travels.

Understandably the under 2.5 goals line is priced prohibitively so I am taking a look at the opening 45 minutes instead.

Swansea vs Middlesbrough Preview

In contrast, Middlesbrough once again bounced back from a rare negative result. Handing out a 5-0 drubbing to Reading at the Riverside last weekend. Making it 43 points collected under Michael Carrick since his arrival at the end of October. Only runaway leaders Burnley have collected more during that time frame.

But a second fixture on home soil against a side in the relegation zone this week provides the perfect opportunity to close the gap to 6th which currently stands at four points. This will be Carlos Corberán’s first league meeting against the side he guided to the play-off final last May.

Neil Warnock has vowed to “keep on going” as his side picked up a point at home to Bristol City in midweek. It was a good response to the weekend drubbing at the hands of Coventry. A consecutive 4-0 loss. Also giving the Terriers the mental boost of lifting them off the foot of the table. But with a six-point gap to safety and a daunting run of fixtures ahead, the odds are stacked against the 74-year-old manager and his team.
