Two weekends left of the Championship season. Blackburn eye the playoffs, Bournemouth pencil in automatic promotion. Both targets are far from nailed on for those visiting Ewood Park on Saturday, and both need a result.
There’s much to play for, with Forest hot on the heels of the Cherries and Blackburn needing three points to keep pace. My primary focus shifts to bookings in a conscious attempt to veer away from predicting results at this stage of the season.
In Blackburn and Bournemouth, we have a solid line-up on the cards front. Rovers lead the Championship in terms of average bookings received per game. In third, Bournemouth edge close behind the home side’s 2.55 with 2.33 per90.
It’s a bit of a struggle to carve out a price worth taking, in honesty. Both sides’ lofty card averages have contributed to that. Nevertheless, William Hill is on hand to offer some food for thought.
The following may take your fancy if you expect Keith Stroud to get his cards out, as the bookies do. Either side to receive 20+ Booking Points and a card to come for both in the second half comes to 1.88. So, in theory, Blackburn and Bournemouth’s averages should cover 20+ BPs for us.
On the other hand, Stroud approaches the weekend with an average of 4.65 cards per game total. His second-half average? That comes to 3.39, with 71% of second-half splits shared between the two sides.

The 3-3 draw up against Premier League hopefuls midweek shows precisely the type of squad Russel Martin has on his hands. Although Swansea City are not quite fighting for much in terms of league standings, recent results could persuade otherwise.
The Welsh outfit has drawn four on the trot, coming up against sides with skin still in the game in the Championship. A 1-1 tie against Barnsley and a 4-4 belter in Reading ensured Swansea had their say in the relegation scrap. The 3-3 Bournemouth showdown followed a score draw versus a travelling Boro side at the other end of the table.
The first selection of Saturday’s best bets attempts to harness Forest’s desire to be residing in second place when the curtains close on this season’s campaign. This calendar year, the Tricky Trees have scored two or more goals in 11 of 18 fixtures.
It’s an impressive statistic and one I’m hoping rears its head once again, considering Swansea’s goal-laden aura we’re witnessing in the closing stages.

Put simply, Middlesbrough have to get a victory against Stoke City on Saturday. The playoffs will slip agonisingly out of their grasp if they don’t.
Sitting in seventh, two points off Sheffield United, who prop up the top six, Boro have ensured it’ll go to the wire. The midweek Cardiff victory was crucial and keeps them in the hunt, just like a repeat of three points at the Riverside will be on Saturday.
Stoke City are now mathematically unable to finish in the top six in what could be a blessing for Chris Wilder’s squad. Nevertheless, with five wins in their last seven, the Potters arrive full of confidence.
During their impressive seven-game period, Stoke managed to get the better of four of the current playoff-chasing top ten. Not only that, but you can add in a 1-3 Baggies win on the road for good measure.
If Stoke City avoid taking their foot off the gas, something that often occurs naturally at this stage, Saturday should be level in terms of the quality on show. I’ll be delving into the card markets hoping that the scoreline stays tight and Boro’s intent to reach the playoffs spills over.
Jeremy Simpson takes the whistle in Middlesbrough. The man in black averages 3.52 per90 from 25 Championship games this term. In 48% of Simpson’s fixtures in 2020/21, both teams have received a booking after the break.
In the last ten fixtures played at The Riverside, Boro home matches have produced 5.10 cards per90. Breaking down that 5.10 figure, Boro receives 2.20 while their opponents outdo the hosts with 2.90.

A Championship acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A Championship acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create Championship accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the Championship acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
