Championship Best Bets: Saturday, September 3rd

Here at bettingexpert we have the Championship Best Bets for you once again. The season heats up and delivers another round of intriguing fixtures from the best league in England – according to some. Visits to Blackburn, Rotherham, and Norwich line the three selections below.

In this article:

Blackburn vs Bristol City Preview

Saturday, September 3rd, 15:00 (UK)

Bradley Dack deputising up top with Sam Gallagher out injured is a worrying sign at Ewood Park, highlighting the lack of depth in forward areas. With Ben Brereton-Diaz seemingly angling for a move away from Lancashire and David Ornstein confirming Fulham’s attempt to test Blackburn’s resolve with a bid, it’s certainly an area of the pitch in need of reinforcement.

The one real positive in the 0-1 loss against Stoke was the number of chances created – 18 to Stoke’s 8, although they only recorded two on target. John Dahl Tomasson’s Rovers followed up the Stoke disappointment by claiming all three points on the seaside on Wednesday. It was a result where the away side hit 17 shots, testing the Blackpool’s keeper, Daniel Grimshaw, on five occasions.

Blackburn vs Bristol City Best Bet

Considering the issue at Ewood Park in the campaign’s early stages was not creating many chances but scoring from the few they did conjure, the previous two matches have been a welcome change. With this in mind, and Bristol City the side visiting next, there may be goals ahead.

The Robins will chip in with their own chances; that’s a given. The 10.3xG from seven matches suggests just as much, as does their 13 goals scored. Only Sheffield United, with 14, can brag a more significant goal tally. The five teams with a more efficient xG total are who you’d expect – all five were amongst the bookmaker’s top six for promotion, with Watford the only playoff-fancied side below Bristol City.

  • Selection: Yes on BTTS
  • Best Odds: 1.85 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Rotherham vs Watford Preview

Saturday, September 3rd, 15:00 (UK)

It has been a cracking start to life for Rotherham in 2021/22.

The Millers clinched promotion last season to lock in another stay in the second tier, their sixth since the 2014/15 season. In those eight years, it has been somewhat of a slog – three (24th/22nd/23rd) of Rotherham’s five previous Championship outings have ended in relegation. The other two campaigns saw Rotherham live to tell another tale in the second tier, but only just.

So, their current position in 12th with nine points from six matches is something Paul Warne and all involved with the club should be proud of. Yet, time waits for no person in the Championship, with Watford coming to their backyard presenting as the next daunting task. Rotherham’s home form will provide the foundations of any Championship stay into next season. That reality has started well, too – undefeated, winning two of three games and conceding just one goal. The aggregate scoreline of 7-1 at the New York Stadium is impressive, and it does, admittedly, throw shade over this selection.

Rotherham vs Watford Best Bet

However, the 1.70 on offer for Watford to come and avoid defeat and keep our bankroll safe is a tempting one. Joao Pedro and Ismalia Sarr remain at the club despite interested Premier League parties probing Watford for their availability. It’ll be a huge boost for the club if they’re in Watford yellow following deadline day, two players with the quality to mix it at the highest level, without a doubt.

Watford have lost just once all season in what has been a stuttering start under Rob Edwards, in truth. Nevertheless, the Hornets head into the weekend unbeaten on their travels, with three uninspiring draws versus Preston, Birmingham and West Brom. The 1.70 is more of a price play than anything, knowing that Watford have the personnel to win games out of nothing. The available odds are something you’d snatch at if offered before a ball was kicked this summer.

  • Selection: Watford +0 Asian Handicap
  • Best Odds: 1.70 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Norwich vs Coventry Preview

Saturday, September 3rd, 15:00 (UK)

A Canaries victory and over 1.5 match goals has returned profits in 3/4 of Norwich’s recent fixtures. Josh Sargeant’s winner in a 0-1 win over Sunderland was the one match with punters left out of pocket. Dean Smith’s Norwich’s have registered 7.92xG from their four successive wins. It’s an imposing total that should provide reassurance for those keen to get them on side on the weekend.

In what is often a gruelling Championship schedule, sides should take solace in any little win they can. Here, the Sky Blues arrive on Saturday having played 24 hours after their Saturday opponents, somewhat of a leg up for Norwich. Preston’s 0-1 win on Wednesday confirmed the expectation of a low-scoring game in the Midlands, something Ryan Lowe’s men are becoming especially good at.

Norwich vs Coventry Best Bet

Coventry travels to Carrow Road, having lost their last three matches. The three defeats in a curtailed August surrounded postponements at the Coventry Building Society Arena due to an unplayable pitch surface, a set of unwelcome distractions surely hampering any preparations for Mark Robins’ squad. The 0-1 Preston loss follows two successive 3-2 defeats and a heavy 1-4 loss to Bristol City in the cup.

In the hope September has more of the same in-store, the 2.20 angle to favour with the team in form is one I’ll get behind.

  • Selection: Norwich Win and Over 1.5 Goals
  • Best Odds: 2.20 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10
