Matt Godden Over 1.5 Shots on Target
The sale of Viktor Gyökeres to Sporting Lisbon for a club record fee reported to be close to £20m left a big goalscoring void in this Coventry side. The 25-year-old fired 43 goals during his two-and-a-half seasons with the Sky Blues, and his 21 goals and 12 assists last term took the club to the play-off final.
Defeat to Luton on penalties made the Swedish international’s departure inevitable, and Ellis Simms was signed as his replacement. However, in the early stages of the new campaign, it is Matt Godden, the striker who top-scored for the club in the League One title-winning campaign of 2019/20, who has stepped out of the shadows.
The 32-year-old netted both goals in his side’s 3-2 midweek defeat to Cardiff. Taking his tally for the season to five, which makes him the joint-top scorer in the Championship.
Godden’s total of 12 shots on target is the most in the English second tier so far this term, and he has hit at least two in all three home games. He is also on spot-kick duty, so he has a fantastic chance of keeping that sequence going here at nice odds of 2.75.
Both teams to Receive 2+ Cards
The last three Coventry games have seen cards galore – 18 yellow cards have been shown, with Mark Robins’ side picking up 11 of those.
There have been at least five cautions in each fixture against Watford, Hull and Cardiff. With each team seeing at least two players carded.
Huddersfield and Stoke both had two players have their names taken by referee Darren Bond in Neil Warnock’s last game as Town manager in midweek. With newly appointed Darren Moore taking charge here, I always think there is a little extra effort and snap in the tackle for the first game of a new regime. Added to that is the extra spice a live TV game under the lights brings.
Oliver Langford is the man in charge, representing a good appointment for leg 2 of the bet builder. The West Midlands official has taken charge of four Championship games this campaign, showing 18 yellow and one red card.
Now in his 13th season as a football league referee, the experienced whistle-blower has issued at least two cards to each team in all four of those second-tier appointments. His last appearance on Saturday, September 16th, saw him evenly share four yellow cards between Norwich and Stoke.
Over 8 Corners
As always, when a new manager comes in, we have to take a little leap of faith when trusting the stats prior to their arrival will still stand strong. Darren Moore was named the new Terriers boss on Thursday evening, with his first training session on Saturday, just two days before this clash.
With that in mind, we shouldn’t see a drastically different set-up, and the selection of over eight corners in the match is based on both sides’ data so far this season.
Coventry’s league games have seen an average of 12 corners, with that number rising to 13.33 when playing on home soil. All three fixtures have easily cleared this line with 14, 11 and 15 flag kicks taken.
Huddersfield have the highest away-from-home corner average in the current campaign, taking 25 in total at 8.33 per game. They are proving consistent, too, hitting eight twice and nine on their last road trip at West Brom.
As a result, their away games average 12.67, with 10, 15 and 13 the individual game totals. This means all six home and away fixtures have easily cleared the required number. The last five head-to-head meetings have also all seen over eight corners taken.
