Japan vs Costa Rica Preview
World Cup Group E, Sunday, November 27th, 10:00 (UK)
Japan could all-but secure an unlikely place in the last 16 with a win here. Their 2-1 victory over Germany on matchday 1 blew things wide open in Group E. Sunday evening’s match between Spain and Germany was supposed to decide which of those sides finishes on six points and which one earned nine. Now, Germany are fighting for their lives at this World Cup.
It was a deserved win for Japan. They’ll want to prove that win wasn’t just a flash in the pan by putting in another good display here. They’ve never lost to Costa Rica in their previous four matches and scored three goals in three of those. That will bring plenty of confidence.
But the Central American side will demand improvement. It was always going to be tough for them in Group E but this is their best chance of picking up points. I expect both sides to give it a go and the goals to flow as a result.
Japan vs Costa Rica Best Bet
With that in mind, I’m expecting goals. The line is set low at 2.5 which rather surprised me. We’re already seeing more goals on matchday 2 than we did during the first round of group fixtures. The pressure ramps up from here on and that usually means more goals. Over one is the first leg of this match builder.
Takuma Asano caught the eye for Japan on matchday. He had five shots against Germany earlier in the week. Japan had a total of 12 and no other player had more than one strike at goal. Costa Rica conceded 17 shooting opportunities to Spain in their heavy defeat. Surely Japan will get a few here.
- Selection: Over 1 Match Goals and Over 1.5 Shots for Takuma Asano (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 2.15 (bet365)
- Stakes: 8/10
Belgium vs Morocco Preview
World Cup Group F, Sunday, November 27th, 13:00 (UK)
Belgium vs Morocco looks set to be a cracker in Group F. The scales are finely balanced after the results on matchday 1. Belgium were more than a little fortunate to beat Canada. 0.66 xG vs 2.34 xG resulted in a scoreline of 1-0 to the Red Devils. Morocco and Croatia played out a rather tame 0-0 draw.
These slides haven’t met at a World Cup since 1994. Belgium will be confident that history is on their side. They’ve never lost a World Cup match against an African nation before. They’ve also won each of their last eight group stage matches, a win here would be a tournament record.
But Morocco have more to give. They showed flashes of class in that 0-0 with Croatia and they’ll know they need to start picking up points. They’ve got a better chance than the odds suggest.
Belgium vs Morocco Best Bet
I like Morocco here. Belgium were awful for much of their 1-0 win against Canada. Roberto Martinez’s side will be found out during this tournament and I’d wager decent odds that starts sooner rather than later. The Asian line gives the African side half a goal which looks good.
- Selection: Morocco +0.5 Asian handicap (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.88 (bet365)
- Stakes: 5/10
Spain vs Germany Preview
World Cup Group E, Sunday, November 27th, 20:00 (UK)
It’s the biggest match of the World Cup so far as two of the previous three winners of the World Cup face off in Group E. Spain vs Germany is a match worthy of any final but we’re gifted it just a week after things kicked off in Qatar.
It’s a must-win one for Hansi Flick’s side. Their defeat to Japan earlier in the week blew this group wide open. A loss here could send them home depending on how things go in the early kickoff. They’re the outsiders heading into it which shows the scale of the task.
For Spain, it’s a case of more of the same. Luis Enrique’s side were dominant on matchday 1, putting in a great display against Costa Rica. The 7-0 win was the biggest at the World Cup since 2002. Having six different scorers on the pitch will allay worries that La Roja lack an out-and-out goal-getter.
Spain vs Germany Best Bet
The stage is set for a memorable clash. Spain and Germany have two of the strongest sides in the competition and both will want to give it a go here. Germany need the win. They don’t want to be left wishing for Japan to drop points for them to secure a place in the last 16.
Spain’s place in the last 16 is far from assured. A draw would be enough for La Roja but a defeat could set it up for a must-win match with Japan.
Both sides are stacked with creative players as we saw in matchday 1. Spain scored seven goals and had 17 shots in 90 minutes. Germany only bagged one but that came from 26 efforts on goal. It’s doubtful that either side will repeat that feat against superior opposition here but the shot line feels a little low at around 25.
- Selection: Over 24.5 Shots (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.90 (bet365)
- Stakes: 8/10

WHAT IS A FOOTBALL ACCA?
A football acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually. consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A football acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create football accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the football acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
