AFCON’s final quarter-final fixture is here and Nathan Joyes provides his DR Congo vs Guinea prediction, tips and best bets preview.
Both nations have progressed beyond expectations in the tournament, so it might take extra-time or penalties to separate them.
In this article:
Ivory Coast, AFCON, Friday, February 2nd, 20:00 (UK)
As with most major tournaments, there’s plenty at stake as we reach the final stages. This encounter is no different, and everything seemingly points towards a tight affair.
The reason why everything points towards a draw is probably to do with the fact DR Congo have drawn all four matches to date. They managed to defeat Egypt in extra-time, but alas, the full-time result was once again 1-1.
Although Guinea have only drawn one match, which was their opener vs Cameroon, their narrow 1-0 victories against both Gambia and Equatorial Guinea could easily have gone either way.
Both teams have been short in the goalscoring department compared to other nations still left in the competition, and it doesn’t look as though it will change once again.
It’s also worth pointing out that DR Congo hasn’t won in eight matches, drawing five of them, and they’ll once again need their defence to lead by example.
Although DR Congo have yet to win in normal time, they haven’t had too many issues in finding the back of the net.
Admittedly, they haven’t scored more than once in each fixture, but so far, so good for the Leopards.
DR Congo have scored in all but one of their fixtures, and the same can be said for Guinea, who only failed to find the back of the net against the current holders Senegal – although holders they will be no more after losing to Ivory Coast on penalties in the round of 16.
Guinea’s Mohamed Bayo has scored twice, and the Le Havre striker will be their target man, hoping to fire them into the semi-finals.
If we are to dive into the archive, both of these nations have met on seven occasions, and both have always found the back of the net.
Goals have always played their part when these two nations collide, and priced at odds-against, it’s simply too good to turn down.
If we are tipping a draw as well as both teams to scoring, it would be stupid of me to ignore the 6.00 available in the match, finishing 1-1 heading into extra time.
Three of DR Congo’s four matches have finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, and they have only failed to score against Tanzania in what was a frustrating 0-0 draw during the group stage.
However, DR Congo, although frustrated that evening, weren’t tested defensively against one of the poorer sides in the competition. Guinea will prove to be a much stronger test.
Guinea have noticeably scored against Cameroon, Gambia and Equatorial Guinea – both the former and the latter are arguably stronger than DR Congo – a nation which hasn’t won in eight matches as mentioned, and they will feel confident they can once again find the back of the net.
DR Congo vs Guinea Prediction odds via bet365 as at 18:00, January 30th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
As neutrals, we always want to see teams go head-to-head with full-strength squads. Fortunately for everyone here, that is the case, as neither nation has any fresh injury concerns to worry about.
We’ve already pointed out Guinea’s main striker, Mohamed Bayo, who scored against Cameroon in the group stage and Equatorial Guinea in the round of 16. The 25-year-old will once again lead the line for his nation, which will be hoping to reach the semi-finals.
DR Congo’s players have shared the goals around, but it was Young Boys’ Meschack Elia who opened the scoring against Egypt and came out of that fixture with the Man of the Match award.
